15OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to describe clinical situations requiring repeat embolization in patients previously treated by endovascular coil embolization for intracranial aneurysms, and to report on our experiences of repeat embolization (RE). METHODS: A total of 466 patients harboring 522 intracranial aneurysms were treated by endovascular coil embolization at our institution during the period between December 1992 and August 2004. We studied 32 patients who underwent repeat coil
Our findings suggest that the presence of a G/C heterozygous genotype at position -418 in TIMP2 promoter could be a genetic predisposing factor for FMMD.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Postsurgical evaluation of patients with intracranial aneurysms is important because there is a risk of regrowth and subarachnoid hemorrhage from residual aneurysms. We assessed the role and value of 3D angiography in this evaluation. METHODS: Images from both 3D angiography and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) were preoperatively obtained in 71 consecutive patients with 88 intracranial clipped aneurysms. We analyzed the incidence of postoperative residual aneurysms
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Aneurysm recanalization is an innate problem in endovascular treatment of aneurysms with coils. A coated coil system, covered with a bioabsorbable polymeric material (polyglycolic acid/lactide copolymer, PGLA), was developed to accelerate intra-aneurysmal clot organization and fibrosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the PGLA-coated coils in patients with intracranial aneurysms and to compare the outcome with that of bare platinum coi
BACKGROUND: Thromboembolism is a common complication related to coil embolization of intracranial aneurysms. OBJECTIVE: To identify factors related to thromboembolic events during coil embolization for unruptured intracranial aneurysms and to evaluate the role of clopidogrel premedication to prevent thromboembolisms. METHODS: Since March 2006, clopidogrel has been administered to patients with unruptured aneurysms before coil embolization (the clopidogrel group) in our institution. The clopidogr
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Anatomic evaluation of the lenticulostriate arteries (LSAs) is important, especially in cases of surgical or endovascular treatment, but biplanar angiography provides limited information. We analyzed the LSAs with rotational angiography (RA) and 3D reconstruction and compared the findings with those of previous autopsy studies. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the LSAs on 3D reconstructed RA images (200 sides in 159 cases) to analyze their origin, course, and supplyin
Intra-arterial tirofiban delivery appears to be a safe and effective treatment modality when thromboembolism is encountered during the endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms.
OBJECT: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a cerebrovascular occlusive disease affecting bilateral internal carotid termini. Smooth-muscle cells are one of the major cell types involved in this disease process. The characteristics of circulating smooth-muscle progenitor cells (SPCs) in MMD are poorly understood. The authors purified SPCs from the peripheral blood of patients with MMD and sought to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in SPCs from these patients. METHODS: The authors cultured an
HydroCoil embolization seems to be a feasible treatment option in intracranial aneurysms in terms of initial aneurysmal occlusion rate and durability at the time of the follow-up evaluation; however, caution is required regarding aseptic meningitis and delayed hydrocephalus. Calculated aneurysmal volume of 600 mm3 seems to be critical in determining the anatomic outcome in aneurysms embolized with HydroCoils.
BACKGROUND: The use of antiplatelet medications to prevent thrombosis in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms with stents has become widely emphasized. OBJECTIVE: To compare low-dose prasugrel with clopidogrel in stent-assisted coil embolization of intracranial aneurysms. METHODS: This is a retrospective review of 311 aneurysms from 297 patients who underwent stent-assisted endovascular coil embolization of unruptured intracranial aneurysm between November 2014 and March 2017. Thromboembolic and
OBJECT: Anterior choroidal artery (AChA) aneurysms are difficult to treat, and the clinical outcome of patients is occasionally compromised by ischemic complications after clipping operations. The purpose of this study was to document the outcome and follow-up results of endovascular coil embolization in patients with AChA aneurysms. METHODS: Between July 1999 and March 2008, 88 patients with 90 AChA aneurysms (31 ruptured and 59 unruptured aneurysms) were treated with endovascular coil emboliza
BACKGROUND: Antiplatelet premedication is widely accepted for interventional treatment of cerebral aneurysms to prevent thromboembolism. However, antiplatelet resistance sometimes limits the effectiveness of premedication. OBJECTIVE: To compare 2 groups administered low-dose prasugrel (PSG group) or clopidogrel-based tailored antiplatelet (CPG group) in terms of platelet function and procedure-related complications. METHODS: A total of 411 patients with 505 unruptured aneurysms who underwent end
