Seed oils are used as edible oils and increasingly also for industrial applications. Although high-oleic seed oil is preferred for industrial use, most seed oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and low in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) such as oleic acid. Oil from Camelina, an emerging oilseed crop with a high seed oil content and resistance to environmental stress, contains 60% PUFAs and 30% MUFAs. Hexaploid Camelina carries three homoeologs of FAD2 , encoding fatty acid desa

ExoCAS-2: Rapid and Pure Isolation of Exosomes by Anionic Exchange Using Magnetic Beads
Hyunsung Kim, Sehyun Shin
SJR Q1BiomedicinesOA

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are considered essential biomarkers in liquid biopsies. Despite intensive efforts aimed at employing EVs in a clinical setting, workable approaches are currently limited owing to the fact that EV-isolation technologies are still in a nascent stage. This study introduces a magnetic bead-based ion exchange platform for isolating EVs called ExoCAS-2 (exosome clustering and scattering). Owing to their negative charge, exosomes can easily adhere to magnetic beads coated w

Analysis of Time-resolved Photoluminescence of InGaN Quantum Wells Using the Carrier Rate Equation
Hyunsung Kim, Dong‐Soo Shin, Han‐Youl Ryu, Jong‐In Shim
SJR Q3Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

A measurement method has been developed that can estimate carrier lifetimes and internal quantum efficiency (IQE) in semiconductor materials at room temperature. From the analysis of time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) response based on the carrier rate equation, the physical meaning of the TRPL response is clarified and expressions for carrier lifetimes and IQE are obtained. It is found that the final stage of the TRPL response is mainly governed by the non-radiative recombination carrier li

Clinicopathological significance of CD47 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma
Hyunsung Kim, Seongsik Bang, Seungyun Jee, Seung Sam Paik, Kiseok Jang
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical Pathology

AIMS: CD47 is upregulated on the surface of various tumour cells, and it is known to inhibit the phagocytosis of tumour cells by macrophages. Immunotherapy that targets CD47 has demonstrated success in preclinical trials and is now under clinical investigation for both solid and haematological malignancies. However, data regarding CD47 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue and its correlation with clinical outcomes in patients with HCC remain limited. Here, we investigated the clin

Blockade of visfatin induction by oleanolic acid via disturbing IL-6-TRAF6-NF-κB signaling of adipocytes

Oleanolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid naturally present in foods and medicinal plants with anticancer, antioxidant, and antiaging properties. The current study elucidated that oleanolic acid inhibited the production of insulin-mimetic and inflammatory adipokine of visfatin during adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Adipocytes were cultured in an adipogenic media with and without 1-25 µM oleanolic acid up to 8 days for differentiation. The cellular expression and secretion of

The Pathologic and Genetic Characteristics of Extranodal NK/T-Cell Lymphoma
Hyunsung Kim, Young Hyeh Ko
SJR Q1LifeOA

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma is a neoplasm of NK cells or cytotoxic T cells presenting in extranodal sites, most often in the nasal cavity. The typical immunophenotypes are cCD3+, sCD3-, CD4-, CD5-, CD8-, CD16-, and CD56+ with the expression of cytotoxic molecules. Tumor subsets express NK cell receptors, CD95/CD95L, CD30, MYC, and PDL1. Virtually all the tumor cells harbor the EBV genome, which plays a key role in lymphomagenesis as an epigenetic driver. EBV-encoded oncoproteins modulate the h

PURPOSE: Dual-specificity protein phosphatase 4 (DUSP4), also known as mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase (MKP) 2 is a member of the inducible nuclear MKP group. The role of DUSP4 in cancer development and progression appears to vary with the type of malignancy. The purpose of this study was to investigate DUSP4 expression in a case series of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. METHODS: We constructed tissue microarrays consisting of 16, 14, 47, and 266 cases of normal breast tiss

CD47, a transmembrane protein, is widely overexpressed on the tumor cell surface. However, the prognostic significance of CD47 expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRA) has not yet been clarified. Here, we investigated the clinicopathologic significance of CD47 expression in CRA. CD47 expression was evaluated via immunohistochemical analysis of microarray sections of 328 CRA tissues. CD47 expression was observed in 53 (16.2%) of the 328 CRA tissues, and positive expression was associated wit

Cholangiopathy is a diverse spectrum of chronic progressive bile duct disorders with limited treatment options and dismal outcomes. Scaffold- and stem cell-based tissue engineering technologies hold great promise for reconstructive surgery and tissue repair. Here, we report a combined application of 3D scaffold fabrication and reprogramming of patient-specific human hepatocytes to produce implantable artificial tissues that imitate the mechanical and biological properties of native bile ducts. Intraductal Tubulopapillary Neoplasm of the Pancreas: An Overview
Hyunsung Kim, Jae Y. Ro
SJR Q1Archives of Pathology & Laboratory MedicineOA

Intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm is a rare tumor that the World Health Organization recognized in 2010 as a subtype of premalignant pancreatic neoplasms. It is important to distinguish it from other intraductal neoplasms, including intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, and intraductal variant of acinar cell carcinoma, because intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm has a favorable prognosis. Histopathologically, intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasms are char
