15We discovered that La-doped BaSnO3 with the perovskite structure has an unprecedentedly high mobility at room temperature while retaining its optical transparency. In single crystals, the mobility reached 320 cm^2(Vs)^-1 at a doping level of 8x10^19 cm^-3, constituting the highest value among wide-band-gap semiconductors. In epitaxial films, the maximum mobility was 70 cm^2(Vs)^-1 at a doping level of 4.4x10^20 cm^-3. We also show that resistance of (Ba,La)SnO3 changes little even after a therma
Transparent electronic materials are increasingly in demand for a variety of optoelectronic applications, ranging from passive transparent conductive windows to active thin-film transistors. BaSnO${}_{3}$ is a semiconducting oxide with a large band gap of more than 3.1 eV. Recently, we discovered that BaSnO${}_{3}$ doped with a few percent of La exhibits an unusually high electrical mobility of $320\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{V}}^{\ensuremath
A corynebacterial clone, previously isolated by scoring repression of lacZYA fused to the aceB promoter of Corynebacterium glutamicum, was analyzed further. In the clone, an open reading frame designated glxR, consisting of 681 nucleotides and encoding a 24,957-Da protein, was found. The molecular mass of a native GlxR protein was estimated by gel filtration column chromatography to be 44,000 Da, suggesting that the protein formed dimers. The predicted amino acid sequence contained both cyclic A
Abstract Rationale Because the prognosis of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease varies, a scoring system predicting mortality is needed. Objectives We aimed to develop a novel scoring system to predict mortality among patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease. Methods We included patients age ≥20 years with newly diagnosed nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease, with Mycobacterium avium, M. intracellulare, M. abscessus subsp. abscessus, or M. abscessus subsp
In the development of autonomous vehicles, the main focus of sensor research has been in relation to environmental perception, and only minimal work has focused on the human-vehicle interaction perspective. However, human factors need to be considered to ensure the safe operation of partially autonomous vehicles. This study briefly introduces a design methodology for the takeover request (TOR) time in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Level 3 vehicles and compares four different TOR
Importance: Early detection and management of sepsis are crucial for patient survival. Emergency departments (EDs) play a key role in sepsis management but face challenges in timely response due to high patient volumes. Sepsis alert systems are proposed to expedite diagnosis and treatment initiation per the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines. Objective: To review and analyze the association of sepsis alert systems in EDs with patient outcomes. Data Sources: A thorough search was conducted in P
The precise regulation of Ca(2+) dynamics is crucial for proper differentiation and function of osteoclasts. Here we show the involvement of plasma membrane Ca(2+) ATPase (PMCA) isoforms 1 and 4 in osteoclastogenesis. In immature/undifferentiated cells, PMCAs inhibited receptor activator of NF-κB ligand-induced Ca(2+) oscillations and osteoclast differentiation in vitro. Interestingly, nuclear factor of activated T cell c1 (NFATc1) directly stimulated PMCA transcription, whereas the PMCA-mediate
BACKGROUND: Prioritizing patients in need of intensive care is necessary to reduce the mortality rate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although several scoring methods have been introduced, many require laboratory or radiographic findings that are not always easily available. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to develop a machine learning model that predicts the need for intensive care for patients with COVID-19 using easily obtainable characteristics-baseline demographics, comorbidities, an
BACKGROUND: A three-drug regimen (macrolide, ethambutol, and rifampicin) is recommended for the treatment of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease (MAC-PD). Although macrolide has proven efficacy, the role of ethambutol and rifampicin in patients without acquired immune deficiency syndrome is not proven with clinical studies. We aimed to clarify the roles of ethambutol and rifampicin in the treatment of MAC-PD. METHODS: Patients treated for MAC-PD between March 1st, 2009 and October 31st
In vertebrates, melatonin is primarily secreted from the pineal gland but it affects various biological processes including the sleep-wake cycle, vasomotor control, immune system and bone homeostasis. Melatonin has been known to promote osteoblast differentiation and bone maturation, but a direct role of melatonin on osteoclast differentiation is still elusive. The present study investigated the effect of melatonin on the differentiation of macrophages to osteoclasts. The presence of melatonin s
It was recently discovered that a transparent $n$-type (Ba,La)SnO${}_{3}$ system has electrical mobility as high as 320 cm${}^{2}$ V${}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ s${}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ at room temperature and superior thermal stability up to \ensuremath{\sim}500 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C. To understand comparatively the carrier-scattering mechanism in the doped BaSnO${}_{3}$, we investigate the physical properties of the single crystals of BaSn${}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}$Sb${}_{x}$O${}_{3}$ ($x$
