15Cholangiocarcinoma, the second most common hepatobiliary malignancy after hepatocellular carcinoma, is a heterogeneous disease entity with widely varying radiologic features, clinical behavior, and treatment approaches. In the detection, characterization, staging, and resectability assessment of cholangiocarcinoma, imaging studies are indispensable. Herein, an overview of the state-of-the-art imaging techniques is presented for the evaluation of intrahepatic and perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, as
The therapeutic effect induced by a VDA could be effectively evaluated by using IVIM DW imaging, and f and fD* may be early predictive indicators of tumor response.
PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic performance of 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) for the preoperative TNM staging of gastric cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study was approved by our Institutional Review Board. Forty-nine consecutive patients with histologically confirmed gastric cancers underwent MDCT and 3T MRI followed by surgery. MRI without DWI, MRI with DWI, and MDCT were reviewed to
Purpose To determine the diagnostic performance of fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the preoperative assessment of pancreatic cancer in comparison with that of FDG PET/computed tomography (CT) plus contrast material-enhanced multidetector CT. Materials and Methods This prospective study was approved by the institutional review board; written informed consent was obtained. Thirty-seven patients with 39 pancreatic tumors und
PURPOSE: To investigate the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) v2014 categorization of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) on gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (Gd-EOB-MRI) in comparison with multiphasic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our Institutional Review Board approved this retrospective study and waived the requirement for informed consent. We included 182 high-risk patients with 216 pathologically confirmed HCCs who underwent
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using gadolinium ethoxybenzyl diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-EOB-DPTA), or gadoxetic acid for short, is a hepatocyte-specific contrast agent which is now increasingly used for the detection and characterization of focal hepatic lesions, particularly in patients at high-risk of developing hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). In fact, several recent guidelines now recognize gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI (Gd-EOB-MRI) as the primary diagnostic imaging modality for
Background Accurate assessment of local resectability of pancreatic cancer at initial workup is critical to determine the most appropriate management strategy among up-front operation, neoadjuvant treatment, or palliative treatment. Purpose To investigate the interobserver agreement of the preoperative CT classification of the local resectability of pancreatic cancer and to determine if radiologist experience level impacts evaluation, and to evaluate the reader performance in assessing resectabi
PURPOSE: To investigate the utility of Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) v2014 for intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinomas (IMCC) on gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was approved by our Institutional Review Board with waiver of informed consent. Pathologically confirmed IMCCs (n = 35) and hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) (n = 71) in patients with chronic hepatitis B or cirrhosis who had undergone gadox
Background Hepatobiliary phase (HBP) hypointense nodules without arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) at gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI may indicate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or nonmalignant cirrhosis-associated nodules. Purpose To assess the distribution of pathologic diagnoses of HBP hypointense nodules without APHE at gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI and to evaluate clinical and imaging features in differentiating their histologic grades. Materials and Methods This retrospective multicenter st
PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of using intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging with multiple b values for the noninvasive diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was approved by the institutional animal care and use committee. Twenty-seven 8-week-old rabbits were fed a variety of diets (from a standard diet to a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet) before IVIM diffusion-weighted imaging was performed with seven b values b
