SJR Q1Nano Letters

Nanostructured semiconducting metal oxides and particularly single nanowire devices offer exceptional gas sensitivity but at the expense of statistical variations and excessive noise levels. In this study TiO2/poly(vinyl acetate) composite nanofiber mats were directly electrospun onto interdigitated Pt electrode arrays, hot pressed at 120 degrees C, and calcined at 450 degrees C. This resulted in a novel multiple nanowire network composed of sheaths of 200-500 nm diameter cores filled with readi

SJR Q1ACS Nano

Flexible and stretchable electrochromic supercapacitor systems are widely considered as promising multifunctional energy storage devices that eliminate the need for an external power source. Nevertheless, the performance of conventional designs deteriorates significantly as a result of electrode/electrolyte exposure to atmosphere as well as mechanical deformations for the case of flexible systems. In this study, we suggest an all-transparent stretchable electrochromic supercapacitor device with

SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

We report on the heterogeneous sensitization of metal–organic framework (MOF)-driven metal-embedded metal oxide (M@MO) complex catalysts onto semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) nanofibers (NFs) via electrospinning for markedly enhanced chemical gas sensing. ZIF-8-derived Pd-loaded ZnO nanocubes (Pd@ZnO) were sensitized on both the interior and the exterior of WO 3 NFs, resulting in the formation of multiheterojunction Pd–ZnO and ZnO–WO 3 interfaces. The Pd@ZnO loaded WO 3 NFs were found to exhibit

Ultrasensitive and Highly Selective Gas Sensors Based on Electrospun SnO2 Nanofibers Modified by Pd Loading
Dae‐Jin Yang, Itai Kamienchick, Doo Young Youn, Avner Rothschild, Il‐Doo Kim
SJR Q1Advanced Functional Materials

Abstract This work presents a new route to suppress grain growth and tune the sensitivity and selectivity of nanocrystalline SnO 2 fibers. Unloaded and Pd‐loaded SnO 2 nanofiber mats are synthesized by electrospinning followed by hot‐pressing at 80 °C and calcination at 450 or 600 °C. The chemical composition and microstructure evolution as a function of Pd‐loading and calcination temperature are examined using EDS, XPS, XRD, SEM, and HRTEM. Highly porous fibrillar morphology with nanocrystallin

Sensitive detection of acetone and hydrogen sulfide levels in exhaled human breath, serving as breath markers for some diseases such as diabetes and halitosis, may offer useful information for early diagnosis of these diseases. Exhaled breath analyzers using semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) gas sensors have attracted much attention because they offer low cost fabrication, miniaturization, and integration into portable devices for noninvasive medical diagnosis. However, SMO gas sensors often displ

Bifunctional Composite Catalysts Using Co3O4 Nanofibers Immobilized on Nonoxidized Graphene Nanoflakes for High-Capacity and Long-Cycle Li–O2 Batteries

Designing a highly efficient catalyst is essential to improve the electrochemical performance of Li-O2 batteries for long-term cycling. Furthermore, these batteries often show significant capacity fading due to the irreversible reaction characteristics of the Li2O2 product. To overcome these limitations, we propose a bifunctional composite catalyst composed of electrospun one-dimensional (1D) Co3O4 nanofibers (NFs) immobilized on both sides of the 2D nonoxidized graphene nanoflakes (GNFs) for an

Chemiresistive Hydrogen Sensors: Fundamentals, Recent Advances, and Challenges

SJR Q1ACS Nano

Hydrogen (H2) is one of the next-generation energy sources because it is abundant in nature and has a high combustion efficiency that produces environmentally benign products (H2O). However, H2/air mixtures are explosive at H2 concentrations above 4%, thus any leakage of H2 must be rapidly and reliably detected at much lower concentrations to ensure safety. Among the various types of H2 sensors, chemiresistive sensors are one of t

SJR Q1Analytical Chemistry

Thin-walled WO(3) hemitubes and catalytic Pt-functionalized WO(3) hemitubes were synthesized via a polymeric fiber-templating route and used as exhaled breath sensing layers for potential diagnosis of halitosis and diabetes through the detection of H(2)S and CH(3)COCH(3), respectively. Pt-functionalized WO(3) hemitubes with wall thickness of 60 nm exhibited superior acetone sensitivity (R(air)/R(gas) = 4.11 at 2 ppm) with negligible H(2)S response, and pristine WO(3) hemitubes showed a 4.90-fold

SJR Q1ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces

The increase of surface area and the functionalization of catalyst are crucial to development of high-performance semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) based chemiresistive gas sensors. Herein, nanoscale catalyst loaded Co 3 O 4 hollow nanocages (HNCs) by using metal–organic framework (MOF) templates have been developed as a new sensing platform. Nanoscale Pd nanoparticles (NPs) were easily loaded on the cavity of Co based zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF-67). The porous structure of ZIF-67 can restri

To achieve a high reversibility and long cycle life for lithium–oxygen (Li–O 2 ) batteries, the irreversible formation of Li 2 O 2, inevitable side reactions, and poor charge transport at the cathode interfaces should be overcome. Here, we report a rational design of air cathode using a cobalt nitride (Co 4 N) functionalized carbon nanofiber (CNF) membrane as current collector-catalyst integrated air cathode. Brush-like Co 4 N nanorods are uniformly anchored on conductive electrospun CNF papers

Very promising clinical applications have been demonstrated for diagnostic purposes by correlation analysis between exhaled breath components and specific diseases. In addition, diverse breath molecules, which serve as biomarkers for specific diseases, are precisely identified by statistical pattern recognition studies. To further improve the accuracy

Transpiration Driven Electrokinetic Power Generator
Tae Gwang Yun, Jaehyeong Bae, Avner Rothschild, Il‐Doo Kim
SJR Q1ACS Nano

Transpiration is the process by which water is carried in plants from the roots to the leaves where evaporation takes place. Here, we report a transpiration driven electrokinetic power generator (TEPG) that exploits capillary flow of water in an asymmetrically wetted cotton fabric coated with carbon black. Accumulation of protons induced by the electrical double layer formed at the solid (carbon black)/liquid (water) interface gives rise to potential difference between the wet and dry sides. The
