SJR Q1American Journal of Roentgenology

OBJECTIVE: MR imaging is the optimal imaging technique to study the normal and abnormal conditions of the pectoralis major muscle and tendon unit. The purpose of this study was to use MR imaging to provide an anatomic survey of the normal pectoralis major tendon and its insertion and to compare these findings with surgically proven cases of rupture. CONCLUSION: MR imaging shows the normal pectoralis major myotendinous unit has low signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted images. Reliable ana

Further Observations on the Role of IgE‐Mediated Hypersensitivity in Recurrent Otitis Media with Effusion
Joel M. Bernstein, Josephine Lee, Kathleen Conboy, Elliott F. Ellis, Phillip Li
SJR Q1Otolaryngology

One hundred young patients with recurrent otitis media with effusion (OME) were evaluated for IgE-mediated hypersensitivity by critical analysis of history, physical findings, skin testing for selected antigen, laboratory determination of total IgE, and radioallergosorbent testing (RAST) for six inhalant and two food allergens. The patients could be divided into allergic rhinitis and nonallergic groups. Allergic rhinitis patients had higher total IgE in their serum, and middle ear effusion (MEE)

Collaborative Planning in Process: An Ethnomethodological Perspective
Josephine Lee, Alfred Rue Burch
SJR Q1TESOL Quarterly

Following Ellis's ( ) call for more social and process‐oriented planning research, this study explores how learners approach collaborative planning tasks in the classroom as a locally contingent activity in situ. Drawing on ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, the present study focuses on a group planning stage that precedes the final task of delivering a presentation. Fine‐grained analyses of the interaction reveal that group planning is essentially a nonlinear, social, and pragmatic act

Multimodal turn allocation in ESL peer group discussions
Josephine Lee
SJR Q1Social Semiotics

This article reports on multimodal practices used by English as a Second Language students as they work to distribute primary speakership within their peer group discussions. Following Goodwin’s participation framework, the focus is on the embodied conducts of the non-talking recipients and their nonvocal displays of emerging speakership in peer discussions. Analyses of the non-primary speakers’ gaze, gestures, touch, and bodily conduct show that the students’ turn allocation practices embody th

Oral Disease Beliefs, Behaviors, and Health Status of Korean‐Americans
Josephine Lee, H. Asuman Kiyak
SJR Q2Journal of Public Health Dentistry

Previous research with other ethnic minorities has shown that culture and age cohort, as well as language and economic limitations, act as barriers to obtaining dental care and maintaining good oral health. This study compared self-reported oral health attitudes, self-efficacy, and dental practices of 20 younger and 23 elderly Korean-Americans. Oral assessments were also conducted to determine plaque and gingival status, and root and coronal caries. Significant differences emerged in health self

Ectopic gastric mucosa in the oesophagus mimicking ulceration
Josephine Lee, Marc S. Levine, Christopher Shultz
SJR Q1European Journal of RadiologyOA

We report two patients with ectopic gastric mucosa in the oesophagus in whom emergency contrast medium studies after traumatic endoscopy revealed broad, flat depressions on the right lateral wall of the upper oesophagus that could initially be mistaken for ulcers or even intramural dissections. However, the appearance and location of these lesions is so characteristic of ectopic gastric mucosa that confirmation with endoscopic biopsy specimens probably is not required in asymptomatic patients.

Patricia Gabriel, Josephine Lee, Robert G. Taylor
SJR Q3Journal of Poetry Therapy

Current medical education provides insufficient training in clinical empathy, which is important when caring for mentally ill patients Reading and discussing poetry are promising methods for developing clinical empathy. This qualitative study aims to improve empathy in medical students and practitioners towards patients with depression, by creating poetry as a medical education intervention.
