15We demonstrated that LV GLS was an independent predictor for LVRR and the optimal cut-off point of LV GLS for LVRR was -10% in DCM patients with sinus rhythm. There was a significant correlation between baseline LV GLS and follow-up LVEF.
AIMS: Several studies have been reported using right ventricular (RV) strain as a method for evaluating RV function in patients with various cardiovascular diseases; however, the clinical relevance of RV strain in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients with sinus rhythm is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between RV strain and adverse events in DCM patients with sinus rhythm. METHODS AND RESULTS: We enrolled 143 DCM patients with sinus rhythm who had been first d
Though clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) are an effective and widely used treatment method worldwide, they are as yet not widely accepted in Korea. Given that cardiovascular (CV) disease is the second leading cause of death in Korea, it is urgent that CR programs be developed. In 2008, the Government of Korea implemented CR programs at 11 university hospitals as part of its Regional Cardio-Cerebrovascular Center Project, and 3 additional medical facilities will
CR involves a more cost-effective use of healthcare resources relative to that of general treatments, and the exercise component of CR lowers cardiovascular mortality and readmission rates, regardless of the type of coronary heart disease and type and setting of CR. Individualized CR programs should be considered together with various factors, including differences in heart function and lifestyle, and doing so will boost participation and adherence with the CR program, ultimately meeting the fin
In hypertensive patients, changes in carotid artery stiffness can affect the diastolic function, independent of age and LA volume index. Therefore, measurements and control of carotid stiffness can play an important role in the prevention of diastolic heart failure.
Coronary artery calcium (CAC), which can be measured in various types of computed tomography (CT) examinations, is a hallmark of coronary artery atherosclerosis. However, despite the clinical value of CAC scores in predicting cardiovascular events, routine measurement of CAC scores is limited due to high cost, radiation exposure, and lack of widespread availability. It would be of great clinical significance if CAC could be predicted by electrocardiograms (ECGs), which are cost-effective and rou
The aim of the present preclinical study was to investigate the capability of a new formulation of biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) in achieving new bone formation either by itself or in combination with different concentrations of growth factors. Twenty-four 3-month-old male New Zealand white rabbits (weight range, 2.5 to 3.0 kg) that had been bred exclusively for biomedical research purposes and obtained from a licensed vendor were used. Four calvarial defects were created in each animal, for
Abstract Aims Increased red cell distribution width (RDW) is a poor prognostic factor in patients with heart failure (HF). However, only a few large-scale studies have identified the clinical utility of RDW after adjusting for covariates affecting RDW. Methods and results From January 2010 to April 2021, we retrospectively enrolled patients diagnosed with HF from three referral hospitals with available RDW data (taken within 3 months of HF diagnosis) using an integrated clinical data system. Pat
The presence of severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in patients with atrial septal defect (ASD) is still thought to preclude shunt closure, although there are several reports of good clinical outcomes after vasodilator therapy. We report the case of a young woman with ASD and severe PAH who was able to successfully undergo percutaneous shunt closure following 1 year use of the oral endothelin receptor antagonist, bosentan.
Introduction Amlodipine, widely used as a first-line treatment for hypertension, has inconclusive clinical evidence regarding its efficacy in patients with heart failure. This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the clinical effectiveness of amlodipine treatment after hospitalization for heart failure in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP). Methods A total of 20,851 patients who were diagnosed with DCMP and admitted for heart failure between 2005 and 2016 according to Korean
