ZnO Nanostructures in Active Antibacterial Food Packaging: Preparation Methods, Antimicrobial Mechanisms, Safety Issues, Future Prospects, and Challenges

SJR Q1Food Reviews InternationalOA

Packaging of food products is one of the most important stages of the food supply chain. Nano-size materials for packing food substances with appropriate properties result in better packaging performance and longer food shelf-life. In this review, the application of ZnO nano-size in active packaging of foods is discussed to identify gaps in applications for food packaging and safety. First, the crystal structures and morphologies of modified ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are presented, and their s

SJR Q1PolymersOA

A series of PLA/ZnO bionanocomposite films were prepared by introducing positively surface charged zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) into biodegradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA) by the solvent casting method, and their physical properties and antibacterial activities were evaluated. The physical properties and antibacterial efficiencies of the bionanocomposite films were strongly dependent on the ZnO NPs content. The bionanocomposite films with over 3% ZnO NPs exhibited a rough surface, poor disp

In order to develop a more effective and eco-friendly treatment technology, a full-scale tannery wastewater treatment plant with a sludge digestion system was augmented with a novel microbial consortium (BM-S-1). The aim of this study was to determine if the BM-S-1 could successfully treat the tannery wastewater in a full-scale treatment system without chemical pretreatment and to investigate effect of the augmentation on sludge production. Chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (TN), tota

A novel microbial consortium (BM-S-1) enriched from natural soils was successfully used to treat tannery wastewater from leather manufacturing industries in Korea on a pilot scale. The objective of this study was to determine whether augmentation with a novel microbial consortium BM-S-1could successfully treat the recalcitrant wastewater without chemical pre-treatment in a tannery wastewater treatment system. Chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were monito

SJR Q1Bioconjugate Chemistry

Albumin conjugation is considered to be one of the most effective means of protracting the short in vivo lifespans of peptides and proteins. Here, we present a new long-acting antidiabetic exendin-4 conjugate linked with human serum albumin (HSA) via polyethylene glycol (PEG). As a first step toward synthesizing this conjugate, three artificial sulfhydryl groups were introduced in HSA using 2-iminothiolane at pH 8.0. This thiolated HSA was further reacted with the monomer fraction of exendin-4 (

The Effect of Systemically Administered Bisphosphonates on Bony Healing After Tooth Extraction and Osseointegration of Dental Implants in the Rabbit Maxilla

SJR Q2The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants

This study showed that administration of bisphosphonates interferes with normal bone remodeling after tooth extraction. The experimental groups showed good initial stability, but long-term healing around the implants was impaired. Within the limits of this study, it may be suggested that patients taking bisphosphonates should be treated with caution when performing tooth extraction or placing dental implants.
