15OBJECTIVES: In this study, we study the transplantation of tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA)-induced M2-phenotype (M2) macrophages and their ability to promote anti-neuroinflammatory effects and functional recovery in a spinal cord injury (SCI) model. METHODS: To this end, compared to the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), we evaluated whether TUDCA effectively differentiates bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) into M2 macrophages. RESULTS: The M2 expression markers i
In this study, we created a hydrogel composed of glycol chitosan (gC) and oxidized hyaluronate (oHA). Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were conjugated with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). The GNP-UDCA complex was embedded into gC-oHA (CHA) hydrogels to form a CHA-GNP-UDCA gel. This CHA-GNP-UDCA gel was injected once into an epicenter of an injured region in SCI rats. Near-infrared (NIR) irradiation was then applied to the lesion as a means of local therapy. To optimize the viscosity for injection into a l
We assessed the appropriateness of current radiotherapy volume for WHO grade III gliomas. The records of 73 patients with WHO grade III gliomas who received postoperative radiotherapy between 2001 and 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. Based on the 2016 WHO classification, 25/73 (34.2%) patients had anaplastic oligodendroglioma (AO), IDH-mutant and 1p/19q-codeleted; 11/73 (15.1%) patients had anaplastic astrocytoma, IDH-mutant; and 37/73 (50.7%) patients had anaplastic astrocytoma, IDH-wildtype
Abstract Background Increased use of the transorbital approach (TOA) warrants greater understanding of the risk of increased intraocular pressure (IOP) and intraorbital pressure (IORP) due to orbital compression. We aimed to investigate the changes in IOP and IORP in response to orbital retraction in TOA and establish a method for the continuous measurement of intraoperative IORP. Methods We assessed nine patients who underwent TOA surgery from January 2017 to December 2019, in addition to five
Objective Cavernous sinus (CS) invasion is frequently encountered in the management of skull base tumors. Surgical treatment of tumors in the CS is technically demanding, and selection of an optimal surgical approach is critical for maximal tumor removal and patient safety. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an endoscopic transorbital approach (ETOA) to the CS based on a cadaveric study. Methods Five cadaveric heads were used for dissection under the ETOA in the comparison with the endoscop
The KSNO's guideline recommends that glioblastomas should be treated by maximal safe resection, if feasible, followed by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy according to the individual comprehensive condition of the patient.
We found that complete resection of the contrast-enhanced portion (99.96%) and more than 85.64% resection of the non-enhanced portion of the tumor have prognostic impacts on patient survival from anaplastic glioma.
Our 2 different repair techniques for arachnoid recess tears are very reliable methods for managing this type of CSF leakage. The direct suture technique may be more appropriate for type 1 CSF leakage with a wider gap and more prominent CSF leakage.
We found that the 2016 WHO classification of central nervous system tumors had superior ability to predict survival in cases of anaplastic glioma, as compared to the 2007 WHO classification.
The anterior petrosal approach is a very versatile approach in skull base surgery. By adding a minimally invasive endoscopic surgical technique, it is possible to access the skull base lesions more extensively. We would like to report on the usefulness of the endoscope-assisted petrosal approach for the skull base tumor.
Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of male population who underwent vertebroplasty for osteoporotic compression fracture and evaluate the clinical, radiological outcomes compared to female group. Methods:The medical records and radiological data were reviewed in total 155 patients who underwent vertebroplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture from February 2006 to November 2009.We compared 32 male patients with 123 female patients in terms of preoperative factor
Maximal removal of chordoma is the most important factor for the tumor control. A 31-year-old female patient with lower cranial nerve dysfunction was admitted. The impression was huge chordoma extending from C2 upper part to IAC, bilateral VA, bilateral ICA, and brain stem. We removed the tumor by team approach of head and neck surgeon, otologist, and the neurosurgeon. We report a case of extensive tumor resection through video.
