Abstract Autologous reconstruction using abdominal flaps remains the most popular method for breast reconstruction worldwide. We aimed to evaluate a prediction model using machine-learning methods and to determine which factors increase abdominal flap donor site complications with logistic regression. We evaluated the predictive ability of different machine learning packages, reviewing a cohort of breast reconstruction patients who underwent abdominal flaps. We analyzed 13 treatment variables fo
When performing immediate autologous breast reconstruction, 14% volume overcorrection is recommended for patients in whom adjuvant radiation therapy is anticipated to improve aesthetic outcomes.
Immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) after mastectomy has been proven to affect patient quality of life, psychological well-being, and functional capacities. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of breast reconstruction on postoperative shoulder function and muscle performance by evaluating isokinetic muscle performance tests.A retrospective chart review to collect data on shoulder function analysis with isokinetic muscle performance testing was performed among patients who
A 49-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for acute pancreatitis. The abdomen CT scan incidentally showed midline liver with hepatomegaly, centrally located gallbladder, pancreas truncation, right sided small bowel, left sided large bowel, interruption of the inferior vena cava with azygos continuation, preduodenal portal vein, and multiple spleens in the left upper quadrant. In MRCP, the head of pancreas was enlarged and short main pancreatic duct without accessory duct was showed. EUS
BACKGROUND: Lasers have been proposed as an alternative treatment for axillary osmidrosis. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the use of a neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser with a wavelength of 1,444 nm for treating axillary osmidrosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen patients with axillary osmidrosis who underwent an operation with a 1,444-nm wavelength laser were included in this study. Operative parameters were as follows: pulse = 40 Hz and energy = 170 mJ. Total energy was appr
BACKGROUND: Numerous techniques have been used for lower blepharoplasty. The techniques can be classified into four principles: excision of excess fat, septal reset, orbital fat repositioning, and reinforcement of the attenuated orbital septum. OBJECTIVES: We modified the conventional approach of septal reinforcement to utilize an inverted T-shaped plication with preservation of the orbital fat, repositioning the septum below the arcus marginalis to refine tear-trough deformity. METHODS: From Ap
BACKGROUND: Fingertips are a common site for hand injuries. The ideal substitute for fingertip pulp is tissue that matches texturally with minimal donor site morbidity. We described anatomical findings from cadaveric studies and the reliability of the palmar ulnar artery perforator (PUAP) free flap techniques for the reconstruction of fingertips injuries. METHODS: The cadaveric study involving 8 hands was conducted to illuminate the anatomy of the hypothenar region. We investigated the emerging
Abstract To overcome the limitations of lymphedema treatment, human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) were injected into decellularized lymph nodes to produce a recellularized lymph node-scaffold, and the effect of lymphangiogenesis was investigated in lymphedema animal models. Axillary lymph nodes were harvested from Sprague Dawley rats (7 weeks old, 220–250 g) for decellularization. The decellularized lymph nodes were performed and PKH26-labeled hADSCs (1 × 10 6 /50 µL) were injected in the
Various techniques have been reported for correcting inverted nipples; however, problems such as incomplete correction, recurrence, scarring and nerve or duct injury persist. To minimise the recurrence rate and reliably attain a well-projected nipple, we developed a technique involving a single suture that runs through both the periphery and the core of the nipple. After the dissection and release of fibrotic connective tissue, an absorbable monofilament suture was passed through the periphery a
Soft-tissue deficiency is a critical issue in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Harvesting autografts from other anatomical sites has been a common practice in overcoming soft-tissue insufficiency for many years. However, donor-site complications and visible scars are of important concerns. Therefore, we would like to introduce an alternative donor site of free-tissue grafts and its inherent advantages: the retroauricular mastoid area located along the mastoid hair line. From August 19
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of lateral intercostal artery perforator-based adipofascial free flaps for facial reconstruction in patients with facial soft tissue deficiency. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of five consecutive patients diagnosed with facial soft tissue deficiency who underwent operations between July 2006 and November 2011. Flap design included the area containing the perforators. A linear incision was made along the rib, which had t
