Thalamocortical dysrhythmia detected by machine learning
Sven Vanneste, Jae‐Jin Song, Dirk De Ridder
SJR Q1Nature CommunicationsOA

Thalamocortical dysrhythmia (TCD) is a model proposed to explain divergent neurological disorders. It is characterized by a common oscillatory pattern in which resting-state alpha activity is replaced by cross-frequency coupling of low- and high-frequency oscillations. We undertook a data-driven approach using support vector machine learning for analyzing resting-state electroencephalography oscillatory patterns in patients with Parkinson's disease, neuropathic pain, tinnitus, and depression. We

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Tinnitus Patients: A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis
Jae‐Jin Song, Sven Vanneste, Paul Van de Heyning, Dirk De Ridder
SJR Q2The Scientific World JOURNALOA

Although transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has already been used to manage tinnitus patients, paucity of reports and variations in protocols preclude a comprehensive understanding. Hence, we conducted a meta-analysis based on systemic review to assess effectiveness of tDCS in tinnitus management and to compare stimulation parameters. PubMed was searched for tDCS studies in tinnitus. For randomized controlled trials (RCTs), a meta-analysis was performed. A total of 17 studies were id

Dysfunctional Noise Cancelling of the Rostral Anterior Cingulate Cortex in Tinnitus Patients
Jae‐Jin Song, Sven Vanneste, Dirk De Ridder
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

These results may designate the role of the rostral ACC as the core of the descending noise cancellation system, and thus dysfunction of the rostral ACC may result in perception of tinnitus. The present study also opens a possibility of tinnitus modulation by neuromodulatory approaches targeting the rostral ACC.

Based on the results, we propose all children with USNHL should have a TBCT scan because management, including genetic counseling and prognostic predictions of these cases, may be significantly influenced by the CT outcome. Moreover, the non-negligible rate of progressive nature of ipsilateral and contralateral SNHL in normal-looking TBCT group and in groups with inner ear malformations mandates longitudinal audiologic assessments for both ears

Both groups demonstrated a significant improvement in DHI scores. However, the medication group showed significantly greater decrease in the functional (p = 0.018) and emotional (p = 0.030) subscale scores, as well as in the total DHI (p = 0.038) score.

BACKGROUND: Pulsatile tinnitus (PT) caused by venous sinus diverticulum is a relatively common, potentially incapacitating condition. Although treatment via an external approach or endovascular coiling has been reported, much remains unknown about the possible pathophysiological mechanisms and appropriate management of PT. OBJECTIVE: To review our case series of PT resulting from either sigmoid sinus diverticulum (SSD) or middle cranial fossa venous sinus diverticulum (MFD-VS) and to discuss the

The present diagnostic approach may provide additional information regarding the origins of VPT cases as well as an efficient and objective diagnostic method. Furthermore, this approach may aid in the determination of appropriate imaging modalities, treatment planning, and evaluation of treatment outcomes.

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Although tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) is efficacious in most patients, the exact mechanism is unclear and no predictor of improvement is available. We correlated the extent of improvement with pre-TRT quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) findings to identify neural predictors of improvement after TRT. Thirty-two patients with debilitating tinnitus were prospectively enrolled, and qEEG data were recorded before their initial TRT sessions. Three months later, these qEEG findings were co
