15This study developed the stroke risk prediction model and the personalized warning and the lifestyle correction message based on the national health examination data and uploaded them to the personal health record service called My Health Bank in the health information website - Health iN. By doing so, it urged medical users to strengthen the motivation of health management and induced changes in their health behaviors.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine the association between statin exposure and dementia risk in individuals with hypercholesterolaemia using data from the NHIS-HEALS database between 2002 and 2015. METHODS: Subjects were classified into statin exposure and statin nonexposure groups according to medication possession ratio. Dementia was defined as those with primary diagnostic dementia codes such as F00-F03, G30, G31.1, G31.9 or G31.82. Cox proportional hazards regression models were adopted
We investigated the association between blood concentration of cadmium and smoking status including use of electronic cigarettes (E-cigars). Methods: We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutritional Survey 2013 and 2016. A total of 4,744 participants (2,162 men and 2,582 women) were included and were categorized into five groups (Non-smokers, E-cigar non-users in past-smokers, E-cigar users in pastsmokers, E-cigar non-users in cigarette-smokers and E-cigar users in cigarette-smokers).
Importance: Cardiovascular benefits of mild to moderate alcohol consumption need to be validated in the context of behavioral changes. The benefits of reduced alcohol consumption among people who drink heavily across different subtypes of cardiovascular disease (CVD) are unclear. Objective: To investigate the association between reduced alcohol consumption and risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in individuals who drink heavily across different CVD subtypes. Design, Setting, and
AIMS: Heavy alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the association between habitual changes in heavy habitual drinkers and incident AF remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether absolute abstinence or reduced drinking decreases incident AF in heavy habitual drinkers. METHODS AND RESULTS: Atrial fibrillation-free participants with heavy alcohol consumption registered in the Korean National Health Insurance Service database betw
According to the results of the latest Framingham Heart Study, with increasing age, there is a gradual shift from diastolic blood pressure (DBP to systolic blood pressure (SBP and then finally to pulse pressure (PP as predictors of coronary heart disease (CHD risk. After age 60, DBP was negatively related to CHD risk and PP became superior to SBP as a predictor. A hallmark of the aging process is vascular wall thickening, which is more marked in the central elastic arteries than in the periphera
BACKGROUND: The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanol (NNAL) as a known carcinogen. This study aimed to investigate the association between exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS) and NNAL concentrations in non-smokers. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study based on data from the 2016 to 2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Urine NNAL concentrations were categorized into tertiles of 3,615 study participants who
Background: 4-(Methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanol (NNAL) is known as a lung carcinogen. The objective of this study was to investigate associations of urine NNAL concentrations and smoking status. Methods: This was a cross-sectionally designed study based on data from the 2016-2018 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.A total of 2,845 participants were classified into past-smoker, electronic cigarette (e-cigar) only, dual-user, and cigarette only smoker groups. All sampli
