SJR Q1Journal of NeuroinflammationOA

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by extensive loss of neurons in the brain of AD patients. Intracellular accumulation of beta-amyloid peptide (Abeta) has also shown to occur in AD. Neuro-inflammation has been known to play a role in the pathogenesis of AD. METHODS: In this study, we investigated neuro-inflammation and amyloidogenesis and memory impairment following the systemic inflammation generated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) using immunohistochemistry, ELISA, behavioral t

SJR Q1Gut and LiverOA

BACKGROUND/AIMS: This study evaluated the relationship between hyperuricemia and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by comparing the incidence rates of NAFLD in relation to serum uric acid levels in apparently healthy subjects during a 5-year period. METHODS: Among 15,638 healthy Korean subjects who participated in a health-screening program in 2003 and 2008, respectively, 4954 subjects without other risk factors were enrolled in this study. We compared the incidence rates of NAFLD in 2008

SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering

Automated understanding and recognition of human activities and behaviors in a smart space (e.g., smart house) is of paramount importance to many critical human-centered applications. Recognized activities are the input to the pervasive computer (the smart space) which intelligently interacts with the users to maintain the application's goal be it assistance, safety, child-development, entertainment or other goals. Research in this area is fascinating but severely lacks adequate validation which

SJR Q2Mediators of InflammationOA

Inflexinol, an ent-kaurane diterpenoid, was isolated from the leaves of Isodon excisus. Many diterpenoids isolated from the genus Isodon (Labiatae) have antitumor and antiinflammatory activities. We investigated the antiinflammatory effect of inflexinol in RAW 264.7 cells and astrocytes. As a result, we found that inflexinol (1, 5, 10 microM) suppressed the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) as well as the production of nitric oxide (NO) in LPS-stim

Leveraging altered lipid metabolism in treating B cell malignancies
Jae Woong Lee, Arya Mani, Min‐Jeong Shin, Ronald M. Krauss
SJR Q1Progress in Lipid ResearchOA

B cell malignancies, comprising over 80 heterogeneous blood cancers, pose significant prognostic challenges due to intricate oncogenic signaling. Emerging evidence emphasizes the pivotal role of disrupted lipid metabolism in the development of these malignancies. Variations in lipid species, such as phospholipids, cholesterol, sphingolipids, and fatty acids, are widespread across B cell malignancies, contributing to uncontrolled cell proliferation and survival. Phospholipids play a crucial role

Cellulose/poly-(m-phenylene isophthalamide) porous film as a tissue-engineered skin bioconstruct
Jae Woong Lee, Sung Soo Han, Sum Mi Zo, Soon Mo Choi
SJR Q1Results in PhysicsOA

Regarding the porous structure, coagulated cellulose may not provide sufficient voids for cell proliferation, resulting in tissue growth. For this reason, it was blended with poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA), which could produce a porous structure in the resulting construct. The aim of this study was to confirm the potential of a novel cellulose/PMIA porous film as a tissue-engineered bioconstruct for impaired skin. The films were fabricated by a coagulation process added with a peel-off

Rhodiola crenulata (R. crenulata) has long been used as a traditional herbal medicine in Eastern Europe and Asia. R. crenulata has been used as an antiacute mountain sickness herbal medicine in Tibet since ancient times and, which is included in the Pharmacopoeia of China. However, although it has been used for a long time in traditional medicine, research on the various effects of R. crenulata is still insufficient. The present study was aimed to investigate anti-inflammatory effect of R. crenu

SJR Q2The Journal of MicrobiologyOA

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is being reported annually in South Korea since its first detection there in 2010. The causal agent is a negative-strand RNA virus 80-100 nm in diameter. It causes fever, thrombocytopenia, leukocytopenia, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neural symptoms. The mortality rate of SFTS was 32.6% among 172 cases reported from 2012 to 2015 in South Korea. Thus, is necessary to develop an effective diagnostic method that selectively identifies the isolate
