15Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) exhibit tremendous potential in display technologies owing to their unique optical properties, such as size-tunable emission wavelength, narrow spectral linewidth, and near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. Significant efforts in academia and industry have achieved dramatic improvements in the performance of quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) over the past decade, primarily owing to the development of high-quality QDs and optimized device architectures. Based on a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) configuration, two different shaped (meandered and spiral) antennas are designed using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations and measurement results. The antennas are installed on an implantable medical device in a biological-tissue simulating model. The impedance-matching and radiation characteristics of two PIFAs are compared in order to observe which shape is more appropriate for wireless communication links of implantable medical devices
Path planning for mobile robots poses a challenging optimization problem, requiring the discovery of a near-optimal path within diverse constraints. Conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms encounter limitations in solving constrained problems, vulnerability to local optima, and premature convergence. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a bi-population PSO algorithm with a random perturbation strategy (BPPSO), which divides particles into two subpopulations. The fir
We propose new tools for multiview video coding (MVC) that aim to compensate for mismatches between video frames corresponding to different views. Such mismatches could be caused by different shooting positions of the cameras and/or heterogeneous camera settings. In particular, we consider illumination and focus mismatches across views, i.e., such that different portions of a video frame can undergo different illumination and blurriness/sharpness changes with respect to the corresponding areas i
BACKGROUND: Cortex Phellodendri (C. Phellodendri), the dried trunk bark of Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht, has been known as a traditional herbal medicine, showing several bioactivities. However, antiviral activity of C. Phellodendri aqueous extract (CP) not reported in detail, particularly aiming the prophylactic effectiveness. METHODS: In vitro CP antiviral activity evaluated against Influenza A virus (PR8), Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV), Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), Herpes Simplex Virus
We report on AlGaN grating reflectors for short-wavelength applications, an alternative to conventional distributed Bragg reflectors that are difficult to make in a GaN-based system. An array of air-bridge AlGaN grating reflectors, with a period and filling factor of 430 nm and 0.55, was fabricated through holographic lithography and photoelectrochemical etching. Polarization-dependent microreflectance spectra were measured to confirm their consistency with simulation results. The reflectance me
Block-based motion and disparity compensation are popular techniques to exploit correlation between video frames. Block sizes used for compensation can be chosen to achieve a good trade-off between signaling overhead and prediction accuracy. However, motion field boundaries correspond to objects having arbitrary shapes; this limits the accuracy of block-based compensation, even when small block sizes are chosen. In this paper we seek to enable compensation based on arbitrarily-shaped regions, wh
Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are highly promising for display technologies due to their distinctive optical characteristics, such as tunable emission wavelengths, narrow emission spectra, and superb photoluminescence quantum yields. Over the last decade, both academic and industrial research have substantially advanced quantum dot light-emitting diode (QLED) technology, primarily through the development of higher-quality QDs and more refined device structures. A key element of these advancements
