15Alloreactive memory T cells may be refractory to many of the tolerance-inducing strategies that are effective against naive T cells and thus present a significant barrier to long-term allograft survival. Because CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T cells (Tregs) are critical elements of many approaches to successful induction/maintenance of transplantation tolerance, we used MHC class I and II alloreactive TCR-transgenic models to explore the ability of antigen-specific Tregs to control antigen-specific m
Naturally occurring CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs), which play an important role in the maintenance of self-tolerance, proliferate poorly and fail to produce IL-2 following stimulation in vitro with peptide-pulsed or anti-CD3-treated APCs. When TCR proximal and distal signaling events were examined in Tregs, we observed impairments in the amplitude and duration of tyrosine phosphorylation when compared with the response of CD4+CD25- T cells. Defects were also seen in the activity of phosph
Abstract: Many map matching algorithms have been developed to match GPS points to a digital map in previous studies. But the previous studies assume short polling time intervals(about 1 second) of the GPS data. And the map matching algorithms of such studies are not appropriate for the GPS data with relatively long polling time intervals(about 2~5 minutes). In this paper, we will review the previous map matching algorithms and discuss the map matching algorithms which can be used under circumsta
Xenotransplantation using transgenic pigs as an organ source is a promising strategy to overcome shortage of human organ for transplantation. Various genetic modifications have been tried to ameliorate xenograft rejection. In the present study we assessed effect of transgenic expression of human heme oxygenase-1 (hHO-1), an inducible protein capable of cytoprotection by scavenging reactive oxygen species and preventing apoptosis caused by cellular stress during inflammatory processes, in neonata
BACKGROUND: Beneficial aspects of solid organ transplantation, which encompass survival benefit, improved quality of life, and cost efficacy, have been clearly demonstrated. However, regional and ethnic differences require further studies to identify prognostic factors and transplant outcomes against various backgrounds. After previous efforts of a nationwide, retrospective study on the kidney transplant outcomes in Korea, a new prospective-designed version of the Korean Organ Transplantation Re
ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (ABOi KT) was introduced to expand the donor pool and minimize shortage of kidneys for transplantation. Because improved outcomes of ABOi KT were reported in Japan in the early 2000s, the number of ABOi KTs has been increasing worldwide. In addition, a better understanding of immune pathogenesis and subsequent aggressive immunosuppression has helped to make effective desensitization protocols. Current strategies of ABOi KT consist of pretransplant antibody
Significance Statement Myeloid-derived suppressor cells are innate suppressors that play an immunoregulatory role in autoimmunity, transplantation, and antitumor immunity; however, their effects on renal ischemia-reperfusion injury remain unclear. The authors showed that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) increased renal infiltration of myeloid-derived suppressor cells after ischemia-reperfusion injury. When given before ischemia-reperfusion, G-CSF subsequently attenuated acute tissue
Combination therapy of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and rituximab showed a good transplant rate in highly sensitized wait-listed patients for deceased donor kidney transplantation (DDKT), but carried the risk of antibody-mediated rejection. The authors investigated the impact of a new combination therapy of bortezomib, IVIG, and rituximab on transplantation rate. This study was a prospective, open-labeled clinical trial. The desensitization regimen consisted of 2 doses of IVIG (2 g/kg), a si
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by autoreactive B cells and dysregulation of many other types of immune cells including myeloid cells. Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common target organ manifestations of SLE. Tonicity-responsive enhancer-binding protein (TonEBP, also known as nuclear factor of activated T-cells 5 (NFAT5)), was initially identified as a central regulator of cellular responses to hypertonic stress and is a pleiotropic stress protein involved i
BACKGROUND: In recent years, symptomatic hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection has been reported with increasing frequency in Korea. Therefore, HAV vaccination should be considered in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). The study investigated the efficacy and safety of HAV vaccination in KTRs under modern triple immunosuppressive agents. METHODS: We evaluated the seroprevalence of anti-HAV immunoglobulin-G (IgG) in KTRs who had visited the Seoul National University Hospital from March 2011 to Augus
These findings suggest the importance of TLR4 in the pathogenesis of acute rejection in kidney transplantation.
