15Wild migratory birds are key for ecosystem health but highly sensitive to anthropogenic activities. Therefore, wild migratory birds often undergo rehabilitation to prevent species extinction or biodiversity monitoring. However, the impact of rehabilitation on the gut microbiome of wild migratory birds, which is closely associated with host fitness, remains unclear. For the migratory bird species considered natural monuments in South Korea evaluated here, such impacts could include rehabilitation
As a training set for multivariate quantitative analysis, lab-blended powder samples are frequently used due to the facile concentration variation of the individual components. Real pharmaceutical process samples, however, are often granular in form. The different morphologies between training and process samples result in dissimilar Raman spectral features, thereby seriously deteriorating the accuracy of the analysis. To overcome this hurdle, an effective and simple strategy to make physical pr
Determining reference intervals (RI) is a valuable asset for assessing the health of wildlife species. This is the first study to establish serum biochemical RIs in Siberian weasels. Forty-two healthy free-ranging Siberian weasels were captured live and brought to Seoul Wildlife Center between June 2021 and August 2022. Blood samples from 42 healthy Siberian weasels of both sexes were used to calculate RIs. An automated analyser was used to perform serum biochemistry profiles. The American Socie
Osteomyelitis typically occurs because of the direct inoculation of bacteria or fungi after penetrating trauma or surgical contamination or, by extension, from soft tissue infection. Osteomyelitis is rarely reported in wildlife animals, though severe chronic osteomyelitis cases do exist in wildlife owing to the scarcity of medical support in the wild environment. This report describes three cases of chronic osteomyelitis in wild raccoon dogs related to trauma. The typical symptoms of three repor
The coating process in the manufacturing of solid dosage forms is important for optimizing therapeutic efficacy because the coating is vital for controlling the drug release rate. The coating is most commonly applied by spraying a solution containing the coating material to form a film. In this study, core tablet samples were collected at regular intervals from four batches made using a scale‐up manufacturing coating process, and the Raman spectra were obtained to determine the mass increase of
In several species, the vertebral heart scale (VHS) measurement is frequently used to provide a more objective evaluation of cardiomegaly. However, normal-sized parameters for radiographic measures of the cardiac silhouette in Siberian weasels (<i>Mustela sibirica</i>) have not been determined. Right lateral (n = 24) and ventrodorsal (n = 20) thoracic radiographs from free-ranging Siberian weasels with clinically normal cardiac and pulmonary function were acquired and evaluated to determine the
An Amur softshell turtle with multiple shell injuries was admitted to the Seoul Wildlife Center on 19 May 2021. The most severe lesion was a puncture wound requiring urgent closure. In addition to routine supportive therapy, the damaged shell was patched with biocompatible polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) materials (bone cement and dental acrylic) and fiberglass. Despite a few methods to repair the carapace or plastron of hard-shelled turtles, shell repair in the Amur softshell turtle has rarely b
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is a highly contagious viral condition caused by Circovirus parrot—commonly known as Beak and Feather Disease Virus (BFDV)—a small, single-stranded DNA virus of the family Circoviridae. The disease primarily affects parrots (order Psittaciformes) and is characterized by progressive feather dystrophy, beak deformities, immunosuppression, and high mortality rates, particularly in juvenile birds. Although PBFD was initially documented in Australian psittac
A male captive-bred leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius) presented with a history of inadvertent ingestion of a rubber tip from forceps during feeding. The foreign body was impalpable on physical examination, while radiographic evaluation confirmed its presence in the stomach. Considering the procedural risks associated with invasive surgical interventions, endoscopic retrieval under general anesthesia was pursued. An initial attempt using a 2.8 mm superfine flexible endoscope with 0.8 mm forc
Cerebellar hypoplasia caused by feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is well documented in domestic cats. Still, it remains unreported in wild felid species, including the Amur leopard cat (<i>Prionailurus bengalensis euptilura</i>). Understanding the impact of such viral diseases on wild populations is crucial for advancing conservation efforts and protecting wildlife. An orphaned Amur leopard cat exhibiting idiopathic ataxia was rescued. Initial diagnostics, including physical examination, radiogr
An 11-year-old male Rex rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) had a rectal prolapse induced by a polypoid mass. The mass was highly vascularized with a cauliflower-like appearance. Anorectal papilloma was suspected, and fine needle aspiration cytology showed eosinophilic inflammation. After surgical removal of the polyp, postoperative care was given, such as systemic antibiotics and analgesics. In the re-examination, the rabbit was resolved, and there were no complications. Histopathological examinatio
