15Nitric oxide (NO) is one of the structurally smallest pharmaceutical molecules, which shows great potential as an anti-restenosis, wound healing, anticancer, and antibacterial agent. To date, while most of the studies have focused mainly on demonstrating the versatility of the NO-releasing materials, little effort has been made on developing successful NO-delivery strategies for advancing NO-mediated therapy. Thus, the quest for a rationally designed NO-delivery system is becoming one of the imp
Abstract Due to their autosynchronous roles in shaping the anti-tumor immune response, complex immune regulatory networks acting both locally within the tumor microenvironment as well as in its draining lymph nodes play critical roles in the cancer immunotherapy response. We describe herein a thermosensitive co-polymer hydrogel system formed from biocompatible polymers gelatin and Pluronic ® F127 that are widely used in humans to enable the sustained release of a nitric oxide donor and antibody
We demonstrate controlled local phase switching of a VO2 film using a biased conducting atomic force microscope tip. After application of an initial, higher “training” voltage, the resistance transition is hysteretic with IV loops converging upon repeated voltage sweep. The threshold Vset to initiate the insulator-to-metal transition is on order ∼5 V at room temperature, and increases at low temperature. We image large variations in Vset from grain to grain. Our imaging technique opens up the po
Since cisplatin, cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(ii), received FDA approval for use in cancer treatment in 1978, platinum-based drugs have been one of the most widely used drugs for the treatment of tumors in testicles, ovaries, head and neck. However, there are concerns associated with the use of platinum-based anticancer drugs, owing to severe side effects and drug resistance. In order to overcome these limitations, various drug-delivery systems have been developed based on diverse organic and in
The current goal in functional polymeric material research is the preparation of polymers with high-fidelity nanoscale self-assembled structures and advanced functionality. Thus, recent research efforts have focused on linking chemistry for the development of tailor-made polymers with desired properties. The design of alpha- or omega-functionalized telechelic polymers with strongly associative interactions is connected to their unique supramolecular self-assembly behavior in homopolymers and ble
In recent years, numerous research activities have been devoted to the controlled release of nitric oxide (NO) due to its potential as a restenosis inhibitor which inhibits the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells, the apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells, and aggregation of platelets. This work has demonstrated the development of a novel NO-conjugated gel system comprising of thermosensitive Pluronic F127, branched polyethylenimine (BPEI), and diazeniumdiolates (NONOates). Synthesis
Abstract Diverse artificial synapse structures and materials are widely proposed for neuromorphic hardware systems beyond von Neumann architecture owing to their capability to mimic complex information processing tasks such as image recognition, natural language processing, and learning. Nevertheless, temporal and spatial randomness in the movement of ion and electron particles that exist in materials usually prevents the solid‐state‐based synaptic devices from enabling the reliable modulation o
Abstract Broad spectral response and high photoelectric conversion efficiency are key milestones for realizing multifunctional, low‐power optoelectronic devices such as artificial synapse and reconfigurable memory devices. Nevertheless, the wide bandgap and narrow spectral response of metal‐oxide semiconductors are problematic for efficient metal‐oxide optoelectronic devices such as photonic synapse and optical memory devices. Here, a simple titania (TiO 2 )/indium‐gallium‐zinc‐oxide (IGZO) hete
Abstract Despite the approval of oncolytic virus (OV) therapy for advanced melanoma, its intrinsic limitations that include the risk of persistent viral infection and cost‐intensive manufacturing motivate the development of analogous approaches that are free from the disadvantages of virus‐based therapies. Herein, reported is a nanoassembly comprised of multivalent host–guest interactions between polymerized paclitaxel (pPTX) and nitric oxide‐incorporated polymerized β‐cyclodextrin (pCD‐pSNO) th
BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) involves the selective damage of dopaminergic neuron cells resulting from the accumulation and fibril formation of alpha-synuclein. Recently, it has been shown that not only full-length alpha-synuclein, but also C-terminal truncated forms exist in the normal brain, as well as Lewy bodies, which are cytoplasmic inclusions in PD. It is known that truncated alpha-synuclein has a much higher ability to aggregate and fibrillate than full-length alpha-synuclein. Si
A new process for directed block co-polymer self-assembly (DSA),AZ(R) SMARTTM, for high resolution line and space patterning was introduced. The SMART process started with photoresist trench patterns generated through common photolithographic processes on top of a thin crosslinked neutral layer. A reactive ion etching (RIE) process removed the neutral layer at bottom of the resist trenches and followed by a resist stripping step which completely removed the resist material and uncovered the neut
