SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial Surgery

BACKGROUND: Intermediate rhinoplasties are performed during preschool to reduce the patients' psychosocial burden. At our institution, limited dissection of the cartilages followed by suspension and interdomal sutures was performed through an alar rim incision on the cleft side to minimize the risk of iatrogenic nasal growth restriction. However, the long-term outcomes of "limited intermediate rhinoplasty" through skeletal growth are uncertain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of al

Revisiting straight-line repair in unilateral complete cleft lip: a comparison with rotation-advancement repair
Jeong Hyun Ha, Yountaek Koo, Seong Oh Park, Il‐Kug Kim, Jee Hyeok Chung, S. Kim
SJR Q1International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryOA

Rotation-advancement repair (RAR) has been the most widely used technique for unilateral cleft lip repair. We recently used a straight-line repair with medial orbicularis muscle lengthening (SLR-ml) technique, based on the hypothesis that it could minimize the postoperative scar appearance without causing s short-lip deformity when muscle reorientation is performed correctly. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on unilateral complete cleft lip patients who underwent cheiloplasty between 2

The purpose of this study was to classify and characterize facial asymmetry (FA) phenotypes in adult patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and skeletal class III malocclusion. The samples comprised 52 adult UCLP patients (36 men and 16 women; mean age, 22.43 y) who had undergone orthognathic surgery for correction of class III malocclusion. After measurement of 22 cephalometric parameters in posteroanterior cephalograms taken 1 month before orthognathic surgery, principal componen

Temporal hollowing is a contour deformity that results in a concavity or hollowing of the temporal region, causing significant cosmetic problems that affect patients both physically and psychologically. For these patients, cranioplasty is needed for protective coverage of the brain and to restore a pleasing aesthetic contour to the cranium. We report a case in which titanium mesh was used as a customized craniofacial implant for a bony defect and a silicone implant was used for soft tissue augme

Effect of Early Spheno-Occipital Synchondrosis Fusion in Preadolescent Patients With Syndromic Craniosynostosis on Craniofacial Skeletal Patterns: A Preliminary Study Using Cephalometric Analysis
Il‐Hyung Yang, Jee Hyeok Chung, Il-Sik Cho, Sukwha Kim, Seung‐Hak Baek
SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial Surgery

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of early spheno-occipital synchondrosis (SOS) fusion in preadolescent patients with syndromic craniosynostosis (SC) on the craniofacial skeletal patterns. Twenty preadolescent SC patients were divided into the fused SOS (FS, n = 10; 8 Crouzon and 2 Apert) and not-fused SOS groups (NFS, n = 10; 9 Crouzon and 1 Apert). Lateral cephalograms (mean age: 9.60 years, cervical vertebral maturation index: stage I and II) were used to inve

The aim of this study was to quantitatively compare the effect of DO on the cranial vault according to the age of the patient and direction of distraction. METHODS This was a retrospective study of patients with craniosynostosis who underwent DO in the anteroposterior direction. Postdistraction changes in intracrania

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate the type and frequency of use of treatment modalities (Tx-Mods) in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis (SC) using longitudinal follow-up data. A total of 28 patients with SC (24 Crouzon, 2 Apert, and 2 Antley-Bixler syndromes), who were treated at the Department of Orthodontics, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Seoul, South Korea between 1998 and 2020, was included. Archives of Aesthetic Plastic SurgeryOA

Background Autologous fat grafts are widely used in plastic surgery, but they have the disadvantage of unpredictability due to variable resorption. This meta-analysis examined the literature on the survival rate of autologous fat grafts using objective markers, and investigated the factors that affected the survival rate. Methods The reviewers searched the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases from January 2001 to December 2017. A meta-analysis was performed to estimate fat graft surviv

The Impact of Lateral Relaxing Incision on Middle Ear Function in Cleft Palate Repair
Sungmi Jeon, Goun Choe, Ja-Young Oh, Sukwha Kim, Moo Kyun Park, Jee Hyeok Chung
SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial Surgery

Children with cleft palate are susceptible to otitis media with effusion. This study aimed to investigate the effect of lateral relaxing incision (RI) on middle ear function in cleft palate patients who underwent palatoplasty using double-opposing Z-plasty (DOZ). This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent bilateral ventilation tube insertion concurrently with DOZ, wherein RI was selectively performed on the right side of the palate (Rt-RI group) or not (No-RI group). The frequency o
