15BACKGROUND: Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition has been demonstrated to change the expression of a restricted set of cellular genes. T cells are essential in the pathogenesis of allergen-induced airway inflammation. It was recently reported that treatment with HDAC inhibitors induces a T cell-suppressive effect. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether treatment with trichostatin A (TSA), a representative HDAC inhibitor, would reduce allergen-induced airway inflammation i
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is induced by complex hereditary and environmental factors. However, the mechanisms of ASD development are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to identify standard indicators of this condition by comparing clinical, pathophysiological, and neurobehavioral features in an autism-like animal model. A total of 22 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control and 500 mg/kg propionic acid (PPA)-treated groups. Rats were subjected to behavioral
The gut microbiota forms a large community that coexists with all species, including humans and rodents. Genome projects have been conducted by many researchers in nearly every country to better understand and treat diseases that lead to death in humans. However, the gut microbiota is known as a "second genome" because it includes microbes, genomic DNA, proteins, and metabolites. A large number of studies have revealed the importance of the gut microbiota. In elderly people, the diversity of the
This study was conducted to investigate the inhibitory effects of the cell-free culture supernatant of Lactobacillus curvatus Wikim 38 (LC38-CS) on RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation and bone loss in a mice model of ovariectomy-induced post-menopausal osteoporosis. LC38-CS inhibited the RANKL-induced differentiation of bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) into osteoclasts in a dose-dependent manner. F-actin ring formation and bone resorption were also reduced by LC38-CS treatment of RAN
Purpose: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a widely accepted to treat the varicose vein. However, outcome studies for occlusion rate and patterns of the saphenous vein after RFA are scarce. The purpose of our study is to report the results of RFA in patients with varicose vein. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical outcomes after RFA using ClosureFAST (Covidien) catheter. We evaluated the occlusion rate and patterns with duplex scanning after RFA. Results: A total of 200 limbs (148 pa
An intravenous bolus of midazolam is a viable alternative to dexmedetomidine loading for sedation during surgery in elderly patients who received spinal anesthesia. This is especially effective for patients who are at high risk for bradycardia or who want a faster sedation.

Microvascular decompression (MVD) is associated with a particularly high risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) among craniotomy patients. However, there is no information regarding the effect of prophylactic palonosetron and sugammadex on PONV in patients undergoing MVD under propofol-maintained anesthesia.Medical records of 274 adults who had undergone MVD under propofol-maintained anesthesia were reviewed. Patients were classified into 4 groups, based on the reversal agent used (sug
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a transient systolic and diastolic left ventricular dysfunction that presents several wall-motion abnormalities, while the coronary artery shows normal findings. Because patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy present with symptoms similar to acute coronary syndrome, the initial diagnosis and treatment are often difficult. The condition is often precipitated by acute emotional or physical stress and frequently occurs in postmenopausal women. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy ma
INTRODUCTION: A change from the supine to prone position causes hemodynamic alterations. We aimed to evaluate the effect of fluid preloading in the supine position, the subsequent hemodynamic changes in the prone position and postoperative outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This prospective, assessor-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted between March and June 2023. Adults scheduled for elective orthopaedic lumbar surgery under general anaesthesia were enrolled. In total, 80 participants
Background and Objectives: We examined the association between the baseline perfusion index (PI) and changes in intraoperative body temperature during general anesthesia. The PI reflects the peripheral perfusion state. The PI may be associated with changes in body temperature during general anesthesia because the degree of redistribution of body heat from the central to the peripheral compartment varies depending on the peripheral perfusion state. Materials and Methods: Thirty-eight patients who
ABSTRACT: Noninvasive continuous arterial pressure monitoring may be clinically useful in patients who require continuous blood pressure monitoring in situations where arterial catheter placement is limited. Many previous studies on the accuracy of the noninvasive continuous blood pressure monitoring method reported various results. However, there is no research on the effectiveness of noninvasive arterial pressure monitoring during one-lung ventilation. The purpose of this study was to compare
Dear Editor, The mechanisms of allodynia are ascribed to crosstalk and impaired inhibitory interneurons ⇓. A-beta fibers are indirectly linked to lamina I output neurons via a polysynaptic pathway, and this link is normally repressed by inhibitory interneurons. If these inhibitory interneurons are impaired, allodynia can develop. Lowered nociceptive threshold, phenotypic switch and reorganization of dorsal horn are also mechanisms of allodynia ⇓. Concern over exacerbation of pre-existing neurol
RATIONALE: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has become the reliable, effective, and less invasive treatment for small primary or metastatic hepatic tumors. Hepatic tumors that located immediately beneath the diaphragm are difficult to treat with percutaneous RFA due to poor visualization by percutaneous ultrasonography and the close location of the heart or lung. A transthoracic approach has been proposed to be an alternative for hepatic tumors located beneath the diaphragm that are difficult to ac
