15Individual differences in drug response can be caused by genetic and epigenetic variability and disease determinants. Pharmacoepigenetics is a new field that studies the expression changes in pharmacogenes without changes in DNA sequences. Epigenetic control mechanisms are associated with DNA methylation, histone modification, small noncoding RNAs, and nucleosome remodeling. Researchers are actively attempting to identify epigenetic mechanisms for controlling the expression of enzymes and transp
STUDY OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of a single, low-dose injection of botulinum toxin type A in relieving pain in Korean patients with piriformis syndrome resistant to conventional therapy, and to assess the drug's influence on these patients' quality of life. DESIGN: Prospective, single-site, open-label trial. SETTING: Rehabilitation medicine clinic in Seoul, Korea. PATIENTS: Twenty-nine patients with a confirmed diagnosis of chronic piriformis syndrome and 82 age- and sex-matched healt
Many machine learning techniques provide a simple prediction for drug-drug interactions (DDIs). However, a systematically constructed database with pharmacokinetic (PK) DDI information does not exist, nor is there a machine learning model that numerically predicts PK fold change (FC) with it. Therefore, we propose a PK DDI prediction (PK-DDIP) model for quantitative DDI prediction with high accuracy, while constructing a highly reliable PK-DDI database. Reliable information of 3,627 PK DDIs was
BACKGROUND: Atopic diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma, are inflammatory diseases common in pediatric patients. This study investigated whether these inflammatory atopic diseases were associated with anemia in pediatrics. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a pediatric dataset from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) of South Korea in 2016. Multivariable logistic regression, adjusting for demographic covariates was used for an
CYP3A5 genotypes of both recipient and donor were important factors influencing pharmacokinetic variability of tacrolimus. The recipient-donor combinational genetic effect on C/D ratio changed over time after transplantation.
Atopic disease is associated with chronic inflammation, and anemia has been reported in patients with inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and irritable bowel disease. The objective of this study was to determine whether atopic disease is associated with an increased risk of anemia. A cross-sectional study with propensity score weighting was conducted using a health insurance review agency claims dataset comprised of randomized patients who
The purpose of this study was to characterize the pharmacokinetic parameters of mycophenolic acid (MPA) in Korean kidney transplant recipients. Plasma MPA concentrations of 10 Korean kidney transplant recipients administered a lower dose of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF; 750 mg twice a day) were measured at 2 weeks of MMF therapy by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The plasma MPA concentration-time curve pattern of patients taking lower doses of MPA was consistent with previously repo
Abstract The objective of the study was to investigate the pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions between tacrolimus (TAC) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in healthy Korean male volunteers. Seventeen volunteers participated in a three-period, single-dose, and fixed sequence study. They sequentially received MMF, TAC, and the combination. Concentrations of TAC, mycophenolic acid (MPA), and its metabolites MPA 7-O-glucuronide and MPA acyl glucuronide were measured. The variants of CYP3A4 , CYP3A5
(1) Background: The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of clinical pharmacist services on drug-related problems (DRPs) and patient outcomes in inpatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). (2) Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, the participants in the intervention group received pharmacist services, including medication reconciliation, medication evaluation and management, and discharge pharmaceutical care transition services. Participants in the control group received usual care.
Our goal was to help prevent drug-related morbidity and mortality by developing a collaborative multidisciplinary team care (MTC) service model using a service design framework that addressed the unmet needs and perspectives of diverse stakeholders. Our service model was based on a "4D" framework that included Discover, Define, Design, and Develop phases. In the "discover" phase, we conducted desk research and field research of stakeholders to identify the unmet needs in existing patient care se
The recommended antiviral drugs available for the treatment and prevention of influenza are neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs). The aim of this study was to evaluate age-related clinical manifestations of adverse events (AEs) related to NAIs. FAERS and WebMD data were downloaded. The available NAIs selected for the analysis were oseltamivir, peramivir, zanamivir, and laninamivir. Disproportionality was analyzed using the proportional reporting ratio (PRR), the reporting odds ratio (ROR), and the in
BACKGROUND: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors use in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has raised safety concerns about cancer risk, but study results remain controversial. This largest nationwide study to date compared cancer risk in TNF inhibitor users to non-biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (nbDMARD) users in Korean patients with RA. METHODS: Data on all the eligible patients diagnosed with RA between 2005 and 2016 were retrieved from the Korean National Health Inform
