However, degree and association with outcome of BP variability (BPV) in the hyperacute period, 15 minutes to 5 hours after onset, have not been delineated. METHODS: Among consecutive patients with intracerebral hemorrhage enrolled in the FAST-MAG trial (Field Administration of Stroke Therapy-Magnesium), BPs were recorded by paramedics in the fi
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and neuroimaging correlates of cerebral small vessel disease. METHODS: We identified 759 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack. Lacunes, white matter hyperintensity, and cerebral microbleed (CMB) were assessed using MR images. Deep CMB was defined as the presence of CMB in basal ganglia, thalamus, or brain stem. The association between 25(OH)
BACKGROUND: Our aim was to investigate the distribution pattern of cerebral artery calcification and its association with white matter hyperintensities (WMH). METHODS: We identified 159 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke. Calcifications of cerebral arteries and WMH were graded. RESULTS: Cerebral artery calcification was found in 137 patients (86.2%). The intracranial internal carotid artery (I-ICA) was the most frequently affected artery with calcification (76.7%) and moderate-to-se
Although statins are established therapy for the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke, factors associated with adherence to statin treatment following ischemic stroke are not well known. To address this, we assessed the 6-month statin adherence using 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Of 991 patients, 65.6% were adherent to statin at 6-month after discharge. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that patients' awareness of hyperlipidemia
Most of the clinical features did not differ significantly between patients with a smoking history and never-smokers. However, the age at CH onset, sex ratio, and seasonal rhythmicity were significantly associated with smoking history.
BACKGROUND: Most of the clinical characteristics of cluster headache (CH) have been established through the observation of men with CH. Epidemiological data of CH in women are scarce especially in the Asian population. Here, we sought to assess the prevalence and clinical characteristics of women with CH in comparison to men in a prospective CH registry. METHODS: Data used in this study were obtained from the Korean Cluster Headache Registry, a prospective, cross-sectional, multicenter headache
BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of the present study was to determine the association between arterial calcification and cerebral microbleeds (CMB) relative to their distribution. METHODS: We identified 834 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack who underwent CT angiography and susceptibility-weighted imaging. RESULTS: Internal carotid artery (ICA) calcification and CMB were found in 660 patients (79.1%) and 335 patients (40.2%), respectively. ICA calcification was
The prevalence of RLS was higher among individuals with TTH than among those with non-headache. Some clinical presentations varied in accordance with the presence of RLS among participants with TTH.
Theses results suggest that increased serum cTnT level at admission is associated with in-hospital mortality and the addition of a serum cTnT assay to routine admission testing should be considered in patients with ICH.
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Although previous studies showed a high prevalence of abnormal ankle-brachial index (ABI) in patients with ischemic stroke, few data exist regarding ABI in Asian patients with ischemic stroke. The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with abnormal ABI (≤0.9) in a cohort of ischemic stroke patients. METHODS: In this prospective multicenter study, 1,293 patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack underwe
Ocular motor apraxia has been reported in bilateral frontoparietal lesions. We report a case of ocular motor apraxia after bilateral striatal infarctions. The patient had impaired voluntary saccades and smooth pursuits in the vertical and horizontal planes with an intact vestibulo-ocular reflex. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an old left putaminal infarction and an acute infarction in the right caudoputaminal area. This case demonstrates that ocular motor apraxia may occur in bilateral basal
Background and Purpose Cluster headache (CH) is frequently either not diagnosed or the diagnosis is delayed. We addressed this issue by developing the self-administered Cluster Headache Screening Questionnaire (CHSQ).
Leptomeningeal enhancement on postcontrast imaging has been reported in patients with moyamoya disease.1–4 Because it bears resemblance to creeping ivy, this phenomenon is referred to as ivy sign, and it was assumed to be associated with engorged pial vessels and slow flow.1–4 However, to our knowledge, the correlation between ivy sign and perfusion status has never been investigated. The aim of our study was to elucidate whether ivy sign is associated with altered perfusion. ### Methods. Thi
19.2% of patients with spontaneous ICH had ICAS, but the prevalence of ECAS was relatively lower (7.2%) compared with ICAS. Aging and diabetes were independent factors for the presence of ICAS, whereas aging, hypertension, and diabetes were factors for the cerebral arterial stenosis.
