Lupus Erythematosus Panniculitis: Clinicopathological, Immunophenotypic, and Molecular Studies
Hyunsun Park, Jung Won Choi, Byoung Kwon Kim, Kwang Hyun Cho
SJR Q3American Journal of Dermatopathology

Lupus erythematosus panniculitis (LEP) is an inflammatory disorder of the subcutaneous fat in patients with lupus erythematosus (LE). It is a rare variant of the disease, which occurs approximately in 1%-3% of patients with cutaneous LE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical, histopathologic, immunophenotypical, and molecular profiles of LEP. We performed a retrospective study of 19 biopsy specimens from 17 patients with LEP. We reviewed their clinical data and reexamined the

SJR Q1Journal of neurosurgeryOA

OBJECTIVE Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a unique cerebrovascular disorder characterized by the progressive occlusion of the bilateral internal carotid arteries. Endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs), previously termed “endothelial progenitor cells,” play an important role in the pathogenesis of MMD. In this study, the authors performed morphological and functional studies of the mitochondria of ECFCs from patients with MMD to present new insights into the pathogenesis of the disease. METHODS The

Craniosynostosis in Growing Children : Pathophysiological Changes and Neurosurgical Problems
Jung Won Choi, So Young Lim, Hyung-Jin Shin
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Neurosurgical SocietyOA

Craniosynostosis is defined as the premature fusion of one or more cranial sutures resulting in skull deformity. Characteristically, this disorder can cause diverse neurosurgical problems, as well as abnormal skull shape. Intracranial hypertension, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation and neuropsychological dysfunction are the major neurosurgical concerns in children with craniosynostosis. In this review article, we investigate pathophysiology, characteristics and proper neurosurgical management o

Clinical course of vestibular schwannoma in pediatric neurofibromatosis Type 2
Jung Won Choi, Ji Yeoun Lee, Ji Hoon Phi, Kyu‐Chang Wang, Hyun‐Tai Chung, Sun Ha Paek, Dong Gyu Kim, Sung‐Hye Park, Seung‐Ki Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Neurosurgery Pediatrics

OBJECT: Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) is an autosomal-dominant inherited disease, characterized by multiple neoplasia syndromes, including meningioma, schwannoma, glioma, and ependymoma. In this report, the authors present their clinical experience with pediatric NF2 patients. In particular, they focused on the clinical course of vestibular schwannoma (VS), including the natural growth rate, tumor control, and functional hearing outcomes. METHODS: From May 1988 to June 2012, the authors recruit

BACKGROUND: Sex hormones may be associated with a higher incidence of ischemic stroke or stroke-related events. In observational studies, lower testosterone concentrations are associated with infirmity, vascular disease, and adverse cardiovascular risk factors. Currently, female sexual hormones are considered neuroprotective agents. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of sex hormones and the ratio of estradiol/testosterone (E/T) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS:

High-concentration (20 μg g−1) tacalcitol ointment in the treatment of facial psoriasis: an 8-week open-label clinical trial
Jung Won Choi, JW Choi, I-H. Kwon, J-I. Youn
SJR Q1British Journal of Dermatology

BACKGROUND: Facial psoriasis gives rise to considerable concern because of associated cosmetic problems and psychosocial distress. It requires a treatment approach other than topical corticosteroids, which bear a risk of cutaneous adverse reactions. Recently, topical tacalcitol has been shown to be effective in psoriasis. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this open-label single-centre study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of high-concentration (20 μg g⁻¹) ) tacalcitol ointment (Bonalfa-high(®) ,

SJR Q1Experimental & Molecular MedicineOA

gp130-mediated signaling is involved in both chondrogenesis and osteogenesis, but its direct role in the formation of embryonic Meckel's cartilage and associated mandibular development has not yet been elucidated. In this study, we examined the influence of gp130 ablation on the developing mandibular Meckel's cartilage by evaluating the morphological and histological changes as well as the gene expression patterns in developing embryonic gp130-/- mice. The ablation of the gp130 gene showed no ch

SJR Q1Journal of Neurosurgery Pediatrics

OBJECT: Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery is the most common treatment for hydrocephalus. In certain situations, uncommon complications can occur after shunting procedures. The authors undertook this study to analyze the clinical characteristics of pediatric patients who developed multifocal intraparenchymal hemorrhages (MIPHs) as a complication of shunt surgery. The authors also analyzed the risk factors for MIPH in a large cohort of patients with hydrocephalus. METHODS: This study includ

Proteome changes in rat plasma in response to sibutramine

SJR Q2PROTEOMICS

Sibutramine is an anti-obesity agent that induces weight loss by selective inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine; however, it is associated with the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including heart attack and stroke. Here, we analyzed global protein expression patterns in plasma of control and sibutramine-treated rats using proteomic analysis for a better understanding of the two conflicting functions of this drug, appetite regulation, and cardiovascular risk.
