15BACKGROUND: The present study was designed to investigate the influence of natural brown and black rice consumption on serum lipid parameters and hepatic enzyme activities in rats fed different combinations of grains. METHODS: 50 male rats were divided into 4 groups and raised for 8 weeks on diets containing white rice (WH), white rice and brown rice (WHBR), white rice and black rice (WHBL), brown rice and black rice (BRBL). Blood samples were collected for lipid measurements, and the oxidant an
Background. To date, investigating respiratory disease patients visiting the emergency departments related with fined dust is limited. This study aimed to analyze the effects of two variable-weather and air pollution on respiratory disease patients who visited emergency departments. Methods. This study utilized the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) database. The meteorological data were obtained from the National Climate Data Service. Each weather factor reflected the accu
OBJECTIVES: The number of paediatric patients visiting the emergency department (ED) continues to rise. In South Korea, approximately 25% of the patients who visit the ED are paediatric patients. In the USA, about 20% of the paediatric population were found to have visited the ED in the past year. A recent study demonstrated that 4.5%-8% of patients account for 25% of all ED visits. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of recurrent visits. METHODS: Design: retrosp
Jagged1 (JAG1) is a Notch ligand that correlates with tumor progression. Not limited to its function as a ligand, JAG1 can be cleaved, and its intracellular domain translocates to the nucleus, where it functions as a transcriptional cofactor. Previously, we showed that JAG1 intracellular domain (JICD1) forms a protein complex with DDX17/SMAD3/TGIF2. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying JICD1-mediated tumor aggressiveness remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that JICD1 enhances the invas
Artifacts due to inter-particle and gas-particle interactions during PM2.5 sampling were quantified by comparing the measurement results between the annular denuder-filterpack system and the filterpack system without denuder. Measurements were carried in Seoul for 10 days in each season; Nov. 2004, Jan. 2005, Mar. 2005, and Jul. 2005, respectively. In each day, two 12-h samples were obtained. The concentrations of nitrate and chloride showed seasonal variations mainly due to the availability of
Purpose : Since the infant formula milk has been produced in Korea, it has faced a low rate of breast milk feeding, though breast milk feeding is a little increasing. Therefore, the Korean Pediatric Society launched its website for breast-feeding consultation to provide information to the general public and enhance the health of growing infants. The consultation results were analyzed to identify the problems that mothers encounter during breast-feeding. Methods : From August 1, 2004 to July 31,
Introduction. The rapid antigen test (RAT) plays an important role in the Emergency Room (ER). In this study, we investigated the effect of the RAT for influenza on clinical practice in an emergency department.Methods. A retrospective chart review was conducted considering two periods, namely before and after the 2009 influenza pandemic. The rate of antibiotic administration, the use of blood sample tests, the use of simple chest X-rays, the rate of antibiotic administration according to the res
Many patients are admitted to the emergency department due to trauma. Patients with massive hemorrhage and respiratory failure can fall into hypovolemic shock. Thereafter, oxygen is an essential part of the treatment of trauma patients, but the mechanisms of its effects in the management of trauma patients remain unknown. Therefore, we conducted an experiment to apply hypoxia, hyperoxia, and other treatment with the goal of decreasing hypoxic neuronal cells damage, as reflected by cell survival,
OBJECTIVES: Continuous blood gas monitoring is frequently necessary in critically ill patients. Our aim was to assess the accuracy of transcutaneous CO₂ tension (PtcCO₂) monitoring in the emergency department (ED) assessment of hypotensive patients by comparing it with the gold standard of arterial blood gas analysis (ABGA). METHODS: All patients receiving PtcCO₂ monitoring in the ED were included. We excluded paediatric patients, patients with no ABGA results during a hypotensive event, patient
INTRODUCTION: Proper ambulance use is important not only due to the patient's transport quality but also because of the need for efficient use of limited resources allotted by the system. Therefore, this study was conducted to check for overuse or underuse of the ambulance system by patients who visited the emergency department (ED). METHODS: In this study, a secondary data analysis was conducted using the existing database of the National Emergency Department Information System with all patient
Background: Trauma is a major global public health concern. Many countries are working to reduce preventable deaths; however, the mortality rate remains higher than their goal, indicating a need for continuous development in trauma care, including further improvements across the system. This article explores recent developments and updated guidelines for both prehospital emergency care and in-hospital trauma management, emphasizing evidence-based and patient-centered approaches.
