Patients having cervical surgery for OPLL should also undergo simultaneous studies of the thoracic spine looking for tandem OPLL and/or OLF. The frequency of tandem lesions in this series was 23 of 68, with 6 requiring subsequent surgery for an evolving thoracic myelopathic deficit.

OBJECT: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between adjacent-segment degeneration (ASD) and pelvic parameters in the patients with spondylolytic spondylolisthesis. Sagittal balance is the most important risk and prognostic factor in the development of ASD. The pelvic incidence angle (PIA) is an important anatomical parameter in determining the sagittal curvature of the spine and in the individual variability of the sacral slope and the lordotic curve. Thus, the authors eval

Journal of Spinal Disorders & TechniquesOA

STUDY DESIGN: The 2 groups of living human nucleus pulposus were prospectively compared according to disc degeneration. OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to investigate the expressions of various genes associated with matrix synthesis and expressions of inflammatory cytokines-associated genes according to degrees of disc degeneration in human discs. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Degenerated discs were obtained from 18 patients who underwent discectomy for lumbar disc herniation. Disc degenerati

Accelerated L5-S1 Segment Degeneration after Spinal Fusion on and above L4-5 : Minimum 4-Year Follow-Up Results
Jeong Yoon Park, Dong Kyu Chin, Yong Eun Cho
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Neurosurgical SocietyOA

If caudal and cranial ASD are considered, the overall occurrence rate of ASD increases to 50%. The incidence rate of caudal ASD at L5-S1 was significantly lower than that of cranial ASD. Furthermore, the occurrence of caudal ASD was found to be significantly correlated with pre-existing disc degeneration.

Genetic analysis of microsomal epoxide hydrolase gene and its association with lung cancer risk
Jeong Yoon Park, L Chen, Abul Elahi, Philip Lazarus, Melvyn S. Tockman
SJR Q2European Journal of Cancer Prevention

The human microsomal epoxide hydrolase (EH) gene contains polymorphic alleles, which may be linked to increased risk for tobacco-related lung cancer. The purpose of this study is to screen new polymorphisms and determine whether these polymorphisms can be used to predict individual susceptibility to lung cancer. The polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis was used to screen for polymorphisms in the coding region of the EH gene. Eleven polymorphisms,

Unrepaired or misrepaired DNA damage has been implicated as a causal factor in cancer and aging. Xpd(TTD) mice, harboring defects in nucleotide excision repair and transcription due to a mutation in the Xpd gene (R722W), display severe symptoms of premature aging but have a reduced incidence of cancer. To gain further insight into the molecular basis of the mutant-specific manifestation of age-related phenotypes, we used comparative microarray analysis of young and old female livers to discover

Conventional open laminectomy has long been considered one of the important surgical options for lumbar central stenosis owing to its positive outcomes. However, newer approaches have emerged as alternatives, including full-endoscopic and biportal endoscopic laminectomy. Therefore, a comparison of the outcomes that are associated with each of these surgical methods is warranted. This prospective multicenter trial, initiated in February 2019, compared the outcomes of three lumbar central stenosis

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective observational study. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the clinical usefulness of deep learning by identifying previous spinal implants through application of deep learning. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Deep learning has recently been actively applied to medical images. However, despite many attempts to apply deep learning to medical images, the application has rarely been successful. We aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of deep learning in the medical fiel

Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion with Unilateral Pedicle Screw Fixation: Comparison between Primary and Revision Surgery
Moo Sung Kang, Jeong Yoon Park, Kyung Hyun Kim, Sung Uk Kuh, Dong Kyu Chin, Keun Su Kim, Yong Eun Cho
SJR Q2BioMed Research InternationalOA

Minimally invasive surgery with a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS TLIF) is an important minimally invasive fusion technique for the lumbar spine. Lumbar spine reoperation is challenging and is thought to have greater complication risks. The purpose of this study was to compare MIS TLIF with unilateral screw fixation perioperative results between primary and revision surgeries. This was a prospective study that included 46 patients who underwent MIS TLIF with unilateral pedicle screw.
