15BACKGROUND: Coronary microvascular inflammation is hypothesized to play a fundamental role in the pathophysiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). No study has directly evaluated both endothelium-dependent and independent coronary microvascular function in HFpEF. METHODS AND RESULTS: mol/L) using a Doppler flow wire with quantitative angiography. Endothelium-independent coronary microvascular function was assessed by the hyperaemic increase in coronary flow reserve in r
OBJECTIVES: The role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) remains controversial in adult patients with refractory septic shock. We sought to describe the clinical outcomes of adult patients supported by ECMO during septic shock refractory to conventional treatment. METHODS: We analysed consecutive adult patients with refractory septic shock, assisted by an ECMO system between January 2005 and December 2013 in a single-centre registry. The primary outcome was survival to hospital dischar
BACKGROUND: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) refers to use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in cardiopulmonary arrest. Although ECPR can increase survival rates after cardiac arrest, it can also result in poor post-resuscitation neurological status. Thus, we investigated predictors of good neurological outcomes after successful ECPR. METHODS: A total of 227 patients underwent ECPR from May 2004 to June 2013 at Samsung Medical Center. Successful ECPR was defined as
Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) is an effective mechanical circulatory support for cardiopulmonary failure. Conventionally, an arterial cannula over 15 Fr is inserted for full circulatory support in peripheral VA ECMO. However, limited data are available regarding the impact of cannula size on clinical and procedural outcomes. Between January 2014 and April 2016, 165 patients underwent peripheral VA ECMO with femoral artery cannulation were enrolled in a single-center
AIM: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) has been shown to have survival benefit in patients who had in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). However, limited data are available on the role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Therefore, we aimed to investigate clinical outcomes and predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients who had OHCA and who underwent ECPR. METHODS: From January 2004 to December 2013, 235 patients who receive
Background: In the current era of mechanical circulatory support, limited data are available on prognosis of cardiogenic shock (CS) caused by various diseases. We investigated the characteristics and predictors of in-hospital mortality in Korean patients with CS. Methods: The RESCUE study (Retrospective and Prospective Observational Study to Investigate Clinical Outcomes and Efficacy of Left Ventricular Assist Device for Korean Patients With CS) is a multicenter, retrospective, and prospective r
