15We used voxel-based morphometry (VBM) to compare grey matter volume (GMV) between 20 migraine patients (five with aura and 15 without aura) with normal conventional magnetic resonance imaging findings and 33 healthy controls matched for age and sex. A separate analysis was also performed to delineate a possible correlation between the GMV changes and the headache duration or lifetime headache frequency. When compared with controls, migraine patients had significant GMV reductions in the bilatera
Whereas there are many H(2)(15)O-positron emission tomography (PET) studies demonstrating neuronal activation during acute migraine attacks, little information is available on the interictal (headache-free period) glucose metabolic changes in migraine. We therefore conducted voxel-based statistical parametric mapping analysis of (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose-PET to evaluate interictal metabolic differences between 20 episodic migraine patients (four with aura; three men; mean age 34.0 +/- 6.4 years)
BACKGROUND: To determine the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes of patients with early-stage adenocarcinoma (AdCa) of uterine cervix who underwent radical hysterectomy (RH). METHODS: Patients with early-stage squamous cell carcinoma (SCCa) of the uterine cervix who underwent RH were compared with patients with AdCa by multivariate analysis. RESULTS: A total of 1218 patients were eligible, of which 996 (81.8%) had SCCa and 222 (18.2%) had AdCa. In multivariate analysis, parametrial involve
Several studies have shown physiological functions of interleukin (IL)-32, a novel cytokine. However, the role of IL-32 in cancer development has not been reported. In this study, we showed that IL-32γ inhibited tumor growth in IL-32γ-overexpressing transgenic mice inoculated with melanoma as well as colon tumor growth in xenograft nude mice inoculated with IL-32γ-transfected colon cancer cells (SW620). The inhibitory effect of IL-32γ on tumor growth was associated with the inhibition of constit
Type A spermatogonia, including spermatogonial stem cells, are primary cells that maintain spermatogenesis and produce spermatozoa. Many spermatogonial markers have been reported in rodents. However, few markers have been identified in pig spermatogonia. Despite the lack of information, it is necessary to separate pure spermatogonial cells from whole testicular cells to understand the mechanism of spermatogenic meiosis and to establish spermatogonial stem cells for further biotechnological studi
Culture of colonoscopic biopsy specimens shows substantial diagnostic sensitivity; the frequency of MDR-TB is higher in previously treated cases than in new cases.
In humans, regulatory T (T reg) cells are known to play a critical role in both the regulation of immune homoeostasis and the progression of cancer. However, there is little information about the identification, characterization and the function of T reg cells in canine tumours. We identified T reg cells in 28 canine seminoma samples using a Forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) antibody and investigated the relationship between T reg cell infiltration and histopathological features of classical and spermatoc
In patients who underwent three or more sessions of cisplatin and Gelfoam-based TACE, the overall incidence of HAI was 24.4%, and increasing TACE causes increased incidence of HAI.
This study investigated the effect of increased phylogenetic distance on the outcome of spermatogonial transplantation, with porcine donors and mice recipients. It was designed to develop a technique for detecting foreign donor cells in recipient animals. Porcine male germ cells were harvested from postnatal male testes and incubated with the lipophilic membrane dye PKH-26. For transplantation, approximately 10(6) PKH-26-labelled porcine male germ cells were injected into the efferent ducts of m
An unusual and rare gastric mucosal lesion histologically consisting of a localised accumulation of bodies and body-containing plasma cells, the so-called Mott cells, has been recognised only recently and termed as Russell body gastritis. This lesion, despite its densely monomorphous appearance is easily confirmed to be non-neoplastic by its polyclonal immunoreactive pattern to immunoglobulin light chains. However, the aetiology of body gastritis is controversial and hence the optimal treatment
