15This study aimed to evaluate the difference in gut microbiomes between preterm and term infants using third-generation long-read sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, ONT) compared with an established gold standard, Illumina (second-generation short-read sequencing). A total of 69 fecal samples from 51 term (T) and preterm (P) infants were collected at 7 and 28 days of life. Gut colonization profiling was performed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing using ONT. We used Illumina to validate and compa
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the preoperative diagnostic clues to ovarian pregnancy (OP). METHODS: This study conducted a retrospective chart review of 23 patients with OP and 46 patients with tubal pregnancy (TP) from October 1, 2003 to September 31, 2016 in Hanyang University Hospital. RESULTS: =0.039) in surgical findings. CONCLUSION: For the patients in whom a gestational sac is not detected in the uterus or the fallopian tubes, it is important to be aware of the possibility of OP and rupture of an
OBJECTIVES: This study developed an algorithm for identifying pregnancy episodes and estimating the last menstrual period (LMP) in an administrative claims database and applied it to investigate the use of pregnancy-incompatible immunosuppressants among pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: An algorithm was developed and applied to a nationwide claims database in Korea. Pregnancy episodes were identified using a hierarchy of pregnancy outcomes and clinically plausible
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate medication utilisation trends during pregnancy and identify factors associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: Female patients with RA aged 20-50 years were identified from the Korean national health insurance database between 2010 and 2020. Pregnancy episodes were divided into two groups according to pregnancy outcome: the delivery group and the APO group (abortion and stillbirth). The characteristic
OBJECTIVE: We investigated the feasibility of laparoscopic restaging surgery in patients with unexpected uterine cancer. METHODS: This retrospective study included eight patients who underwent laparoscopic restaging surgery for Iran University uterine cancer after a prior hysterectomy or myomectomy. RESULTS: The median age of the patients and their body mass index were 55 years (range, 44-78) and 23.8 kg/m2 (range, 20.75- 31.89), respectively. The median interval between the prior hysterectomy a
Excretory-secretory products (ESP) of T. vaginalis have been shown to inhibit sperm motility, viability, and functional integrity, leading to a decreased fertilization rate in vitro. This study investigated whether T. vaginalis induce apoptosis and ultrastructural changes of sperm using flow cytometry and electron microscopy. Incubation of sperm with T. vaginalis ESP increased phosphatidylserine externalization and DNA fragmentation, and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. Transmission e
(1) Background: An investigation of the preoperative diagnostic clues used to identify ruptured endometrioma by comparing the ruptured and unruptured states in patients who underwent laparoscopic operations due to endometrioma. (2) Methods: Patients with ruptured endometriomas (14 patients) and unruptured endometriomas (60 patients) were included, and clinical symptoms, laboratory findings, and radiological findings were analyzed. (3) Results: There were no significant differences in age, parity
Abstract Background High-risk infants are usually treated with empirical antibiotics after birth, regardless of the evidence of infection; however, their gut microbiome and metabolome have seldom been studied. This study investigated the influence of antibiotic exposure on the gut microbiome and associated metabolic pathways in term and preterm infants. Methods Thirty-six infants within 10 days of birth who were admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit/newborn nursery unit were divided into fo
Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) can be diagnosed when the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels are high, but in clinic, women who do not meet the diagnosis of PCOS but have elevated AMH levels are often seen. This study aimed to compare the differences in menstrual cycle patterns and hormone levels in women with regular menstrual cycles, but not PCOS, by dividing them into high and low AMH groups. Material and Methods: This multicenter prospective study included 68 healthy women. P
BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) alters maternal metabolism and the gut microbiota, thereby significantly affecting neonatal health. This narrative review synthesizes current clinical and translational evidence on temporal changes in the maternal gut microbiota across the three pregnancy trimesters in women with GDM and examines its subsequent impact on neonatal microbiome composition, immune development, and long-term disease risk. MAIN BODY: GDM-associated dysbiosis has been rep

Background
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is predominant in women of childbearing age. Careful family planning is required because SLE disease activity and SLE therapy affect the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). This study investigates prevalence and risk factors of APOs (Pre-term birth (PB), pre-eclampsia/eclampsia).
Methods
We conducted a cohort study of pregnancies in women with SLE using the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database of Korea (2002–2018
