Studies have shown that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and green tea extracts (GTE) inhibit the growth of several Gram-positive bacteria species. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the minimum inh

BACKGROUND: Chronic pruritus of unknown origin (CPUO) is a highly debilitating disease that lacks effective treatments. This study explores a new therapeutic strategy with dupilumab. OBJECTIVES: To examine whether patients with CPUO demonstrate clinical response to dupilumab. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective case series examining all patients with CPUO who were treated with dupilumab from March 2017 to December 2019 at a tertiary referral clinic at Washington University School of Me
BACKGROUND: Numerous nonsurgical but invasive cosmetic procedures are performed blindly in the dermis or subcutaneous fat layer of the facial skin. OBJECTIVES: To measure the numerical skin thickness of the facial areas where dermatological procedures are performed by applying ultrasound techniques, and to make it possible to estimate the skin thickness by investigating the influence of several individual constitutional factors such as age, sex, and body mass index (BMI), so that these variables
BACKGROUND: Clinically, pilomatricoma offers potential for a wide spectrum of differential diagnoses. It typically occurs in pediatric patients with the head being the most common location. A second peak of clinical presentation occurs in adults at age 50-65 years, suggesting a bimodal pattern of occurrence. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical and epidemiological features of pilomatricoma in adults over 20 years old, as it is a common and frequently misdiagnosed tumor. METHODS: This was a ret

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory disease of unknown aetiology. Skin involvement has been reported in 12%-27% of patients with systemic disease, and scar sarcoidosis is a form of sarcoidosis developing in previous cutaneous scar areas. Scars due to all kinds of trauma, including surgery, vaccines, cosmetic tattoos, and herpes zoster infection, have been reported to be associated with sarcoidosis. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a mainstay of aesthetic procedure and of surgical rejuvenatio
Previous studies suggested that chronic periodontitis may be a risk factor for psoriasis. However, no study has confirmed this relationship for all stages of periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis). This nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate whether periodontal disease is an independent risk factor for the development of subsequent psoriasis. Patients aged ≥ 20 years who underwent both medical and oral checkups from the National Health Screening P
Cellulitis is a microbial infection of the deep dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. Several non-infectious disorders, such as contact dermatitis, insect bites, stasis dermatitis, and lipodermatosclerosis, masquerade as infectious cellulitis. There are no specific criteria for the diagnosis of cellulitis; thus, it is challenging to correctly diagnose true cellulitis. For previously assumed cellulitis cases that were refractory to conventional antimicrobial treatment, thoroughly investigating the
Editor, Nevus of Ota is a dermal melanocytic disorder of unknown cause. Nevus spilus presents as a light tan patch with darkly pigmented, nevomelanocytic macular and/or papular elements. We describe a patient in whom both types of lesion overlapped in the same area. A 7-year-old Korean girl presented with a compounded pigmented lesion on her face. On examination, a speckled, brownish, pigmented patch was found on the inner and lower areas of the right periocular region, and a bluish patch was fo
Background: During the past two decades, laser treatments have been increasingly performed by various personnel in Korea. However, as a result, adverse events related to laser treatments have also increased. Objective: This study aimed to characterize cutaneous adverse events associated with laser treatments in Korea and to consider feasible ways to minimize possible laser-associated adverse events. Methods: Adverse event reports after laser treatments were collected from the members of the Kore
Poikiloderma vasculare atrophicans (PVA) is a rare poikilodermatous variant of early-stage mycosis fungoides characterized by generalized poikiloderma, atrophy, mottled dyspigmentation, and telangiectasia. In 2001, a 14-year-old male presented with asymptomatic brownish-gray polymorphic macules throughout the body with flexural accentuation. A skin biopsy showed increased melanophages with focal hydropic changes. Ashy dermatosis was considered a possible diagnosis. In 2005, the lesions began to
