15PURPOSE: To investigate the longitudinal trend of symptomatic distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability after plate fixation for distal radius fractures (DRFs), determine which factors are associated with persistent symptomatic DRUJ instability, and evaluate the postoperative outcomes of arthroscopic foveal repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) in patients with persistent symptomatic DRUJ instability after plate fixation for DRF. METHODS: All consecutive patients who underwent
Patient safety regarding wrong site surgery has been one of the priority issues in surgical fields including that of spine care. Since the wrong-side surgery in the DM foot patient was reported on a public mass media in 1996, the wrong-site surgery issue has attracted wide public interest as regarding patient safety. Despite the many wrong-site surgery prevention campaigns in spine care such as the operate through your initial program by the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, the sign your site p
BACKGROUND: The wide-awake approach enables surgeons to perform optimal tensioning of a transferred tendon intraoperatively. The authors hypothesized that the extensor indicis proprius-to-extensor pollicis longus tendon transfer using the wide-awake approach would yield better results than conventional surgery. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed of the prospectively collected data of 29 consecutive patients who underwent extensor indicis proprius-to-extensor pollicis longus tendon t
Background: This study compared clinical outcomes between arthroscopic and open repair of triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) foveal tears in chronic distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability patients. Methods: A total of 79 patients who had gone through foveal repair of TFCC using arthroscopic technique (n = 35) or open technique (n = 44) between 2016 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The visual analog scale (VAS) score for pain, active range of motion (ROM), grip strength, Mayo Mod
BACKGROUND: Corticocancellous bone grafting from the iliac crest is acceptable treatment for unstable scaphoid nonunion with a viable proximal pole. However, harvesting graft from the iliac crest is associated with donor site morbidity and the requirement of general anesthesia. Thus, bone grafting from the anterolateral metaphysis of the distal radius (DR) can be a treatment option. However, no study has compared the clinical effect between the two grafting techniques. METHODS: From 2014 to 2019
In general, the nerve cells of the peripheral nervous system regenerate normally within a certain period after the physical damage of their axon. However, when peripheral nerves are transected by trauma or tissue extraction for cancer treatment, spontaneous nerve regeneration cannot occur. Therefore, it is necessary to perform microsurgery to connect the transected nerve directly or insert a nerve conduit to connect it. In this study, we applied human tonsillar mesenchymal stem cell (TMSC)-deriv
Trichuris trichiura (whipworm) is a ubiquitous parasite that resides in the human intestinal tract, and it is known as whipworm because of its whip-like appearance. Trichuriasis is rare in developed countries, but it is more prevalent in tropical countries and areas with suboptimal sanitation. In most patient, whipworm infection is asymtomatic but patient with heavy infection present with anemia, diarrhea, trichuris dysentery syndrome, abdominal pain, weight loss, appendicitis and rectal prolaps
Fingers are body parts with a complex structure and essential functions that are the most prone to trauma. The principle of treatment for finger fractures is to determine the balance between obtaining stable fracture fixation and early joint movement. Despite proper treatment, there are many cases of functional and cosmetic problems caused by stiffness or deformation as complications. This review article introduces the latest knowledge in the treatment of finger fractures focusing on fractures a
PURPOSE: To compare the clinical results of the arthroscopic foveal repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) for distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability in patients with or without generalized joint laxity. METHODS: Patients who underwent arthroscopic transosseous foveal TFCC repair of Palmer 1B foveal TFCC tears (Atzei classification class II or III) from January 2018 to October 2021 were identified. Patients treated for symptomatic DRUJ instability for more than 3 months, and
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate cross-sectional area of the median nerve using ultrasound in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome before and after endoscopic intervention, and to verify the level at which it can be used in prediction of outcome.<BR> Materials and Methods: A prospective study was conducted in 21 patients who underwent endoscopic carpal tunnel release from March 2011 to March 2012. Median nerve cross-sectional area was measured before the operation and thr
PURPOSE: Comminuted coronal shear fractures of the distal humerus represent rare injuries and are difficult to treat, especially comminuted capitellum and trochlear fractures (Dubberley Type III). The on-table reconstruction technique of comminuted articular fractures may be an option, although it has not been reported in the coronal shear fracture of the distal humerus. The aim of the present case series is to determine the functional and radiological outcomes of on-table reconstructed Dubberle
The extension type locked metacarpophalangeal joint of the little finger is an extremely rare condition characterized by loss of flexion with little or no loss of extension. The most common cause for locking is entrapment of a strap of the ruptured palmar plate. We treated a locked metacarpophalangeal joint of the little finger due to a hyperextension injury. The mechanism of locking was a torn part of the palmar ligament that forcefully rides across the prominence of the radial condyle of the m
Purpose : Olecranon nonunion after surgical management is relatively rare, but it leads to limitation of motion of joint or instability. This retrospective study was conducted in order to analyze the cause and result of treatment.\n\nMaterials and Methods : We analyzed 11 cases treated for nonunion of olecranon fractures. Nonunion was classified according to the spot of the lesion and the extent of articular surface damage. Evaluation was performed using Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS), Oxfo
