The 15,389-bp long complete mitogenome of the endangered red-spotted apollo butterfly, Parnassius bremeri (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) was determined in this study. The start codon for the COI gene in insects has been extensively discussed, and has long remained a matter of some controversy. Herein, we propose that the CGA (arginine) sequence functions as the start codon for the COI gene in lepidopteran insects, on the basis of complete mitogenome sequences of lepidopteran insects, including P. b

The pear psylla, Cacopsylla pyricola (Hemiptera: Psyllidae), is a serious insect pest of commercial pear crops. The species, which resides on pear trees throughout its life cycle, is rapidly spreading in some regions of the world. The population genetic structure of the species collected from several pear orchards in Korea was studied to understand the nature of dispersal and field ecology of the species. The 658-bp region of mitochondrial COI gene and the 716-bp long complete internal transcrib

Short-term exposure to TCs does not appear to increase the risk of dental abnormalities in children aged 0-7 and 0-12 years. Restrictions on the use of TCs in children aged 8-12 years, in some countries, may warrant consideration.

The clinical features of KFD in children and adults were similar; however, the preferred imaging study and frequency of antibiotic use differed significantly between the two groups. Furthermore, in adults, ANA positivity was associated with KFD recurrence. Thus, patients with KFD who present with ANA positivity at diagnosis will benefit from a regular follow-up for monitoring KFD recurrence.

Despite the unprecedented interruption of RSV seasonality, there were no significant molecular changes in circulating RSV strains in Korea related to nirsevimab or palivizumab resistance before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, RSV-specific drug-resistance substitutions for suptavumab were identified.

Live immunization is contraindicated in patients with DiGeorge syndrome (DGS). We retrospectively investigated the occurrence of adverse events after live immunization in patients with DGS in Korea. The data of patients matching the International Classification of Disease-10 code of DGS (D82.1) at Severance Hospital Seoul, Korea, were extracted; patients without genetically diagnosed DGS were excluded. Based on T cell immunity status, the included patients were categorized into group A (CD3 < 50

Background Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), such as social distancing and hand washing, have been associated with a decline in the preterm birth rate worldwide. We aimed to evaluate whether the preterm birth rate in Korea during the coronavirus disease 2019 lockdown has changed compared to that in previous years. Method A birth registry from the Korea Statistical Information Service, which is a nationwide official database, was used to include all births claimed to have occurred between

Limited data are available on the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on encephalitis. Therefore, we evaluated trends in encephalitis in South Korea between 2010 and 2021 using data from the National Health Insurance Service. During the pandemic (February 2020 to 2021), the monthly incidence of encephalitis declined by 0.027 per 100 000 population (95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.055 to 0.001, p = 0.062) compared to that before the pandemic. In subgroup analysis, the estimated

BACKGROUND: Infections are considered risk factors for autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRDs), the incidence of which is considered to have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on the incidence of AIRDs and their associated health care services and medical expenses in Korea was investigated. METHODS: We included all AIRD cases reported between January 2016 and February 2021 based on the National Health Insurance Service data. W

Despite the decline in the overall birth rate, increasing preterm births and associated medical costs pose a national concern. We analyze hospitalization costs covered by national public insurance for preterm infants. Population-based data, obtained from the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), which is operated by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, were used for the study. Preterm births from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2020 were included, using International Classific

Abstract Background Solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients are at high risk for severe COVID-19 due to immunosuppressant (IS) use. Compared to adult SOT recipients (SOTRs), studies on risk and vaccination effectiveness in pediatric SOTRs are limited. We aim to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of COVID-19 and vaccine immunogenicity in pediatric SOTRs. Methods This study was conducted at Severance Hospital in Korea, between 1999-2022. All SOTRs received SOT at the age ≤ 18 years were

Seok-Jin Lee, Jee Yeon Baek, Ji Young Lee, Ji‐Man Kang, Jong Gyun Ahn
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS, OMIM: #142680) is a rare autoinflammatory disease (AID) with recurrent febrile episodes. To our knowledge, we report herein the first case of a patient with TRAPS in South Korea whose symptoms included fever, arthralgia, abdominal pain, rash, myalgia, cough, and lymphadenopathy. A pathogenic de novo mutation, c.175T>C (p.Cys59Arg), in the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 1A (<i>TNFRSF1A</i>) gene, was confirmed
