Alternatives toIn VivoDraize Rabbit Eye and Skin Irritation Tests with a Focus on 3D Reconstructed Human Cornea-Like Epithelium and Epidermis Models

SJR Q2Toxicological ResearchOA

Human eyes and skin are frequently exposed to chemicals accidentally or on purpose due to their external location. Therefore, chemicals are required to undergo the evaluation of the ocular and dermal irritancy for their safe handling and use before release into the market. Draize rabbit eye and skin irritation test developed in 1944, has been a gold standard test which was enlisted as OECD TG 404 and OECD TG 405 but it has been criticized with respect to animal welfare due to invasive and cruel

SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Since the European Union (EU) announced their animal testing ban in 2013, all animal experiments related to cosmetics have been prohibited, creating a demand for alternatives to animal experiments for skin studies. Here, we investigated whether an ex vivo live porcine skin model can be employed to study the safety and skin barrier-improving effects of hydroxyacids widely used in cosmetics for keratolytic peels. Glycolic acid (1-10%), salicylic acid (0.2-2%), and lactobionic acid (1.2-12%) were u

Evaluation of Skin Irritation of Acids Commonly Used in Cleaners in 3D-Reconstructed Human Epidermis Model, KeraSkinTM
Jee‐Hyun Hwang, Seungmi Lee, Ho Geon Lee, Dalwoong Choi, Kyung‐Min Lim
SJR Q1ToxicsOA

Cleaners such as dishwashing liquids contain various chemicals that cause skin damage. Alkaline agents used in cleaners alter the lipid composition of the skin and damage the skin barrier. However, little is known about the effects of acids used in cleaners on the skin. Here, we investigated the effects of acidic pH on the skin and evaluated the skin irritation of acids commonly used in cleaners with a 3D-reconstructed human epidermis model, KeraSkinTM, according to OECD TG439. First, to examine

SJR Q1American Journal of Industrial MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic greatly affected healthcare workers, both physically and psychologically, by increasing their workload and stress. This may also have increased their risk of occupational injuries. This study analyzed workers' compensation (WC) claims among California nursing care facility workers during 2019-2021, to assess the impact of the pandemic on occupational injury risk. METHODS: This study used data from the California Workers' Compensation I

Nonanimal Euglena gracilis‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Enhance Skin‐Regenerative Wound Healing

Abstract This study proposes using microalgae‐containing carbohydrate bioactives, an Euglena gracilis ‐derived extracellular microvesicle (EMV EG ) system, for enhanced skin regeneration. The critical deformation ratio, 1.67, during cell extrusion enables the authors to tune the particle size of the EMV EG at ≈1 µm, thus satisfying the encapsulation yield of β‐1,3‐glucan and the cellular delivery performance. In vitro 5‐bromo‐2'‐deoxyuridine and cell scratch assays reveal that the EMV EG promote

Abstract Chromatographic properties and chemical stability of 12 kinds of phenolic compounds Z. schinifolium were investigated and analyzed to use as an antioxidant substance in dentifrices. Twelve compounds were completely separated under 0.01% phosphoric acid-acetonitrile gradient condition at 20°C and detected by photodiode array detector. Each compound showed good linearity at optimized wavelength, and showed good precision and accuracy in dentifrices. Using this analytical method, phenolic
