15In this comparative study of three anesthetic combinations (PRO/REM, SEV/REM, and DES/REM) in patients undergoing ESS with controlled BP and HR, we did not observe any significant differences in the surgical grade scores.
Epidural steroid therapy is a commonly used conservative therapy; however, complications could develop in patients without any risk factors. Clinicians who plan an epidural steroid injection must perform a rigorous evaluation through a detailed physical examination, simple laboratory tests, and history taking to prevent various risks associated with spinal cord compression.
Treadmill running improved motor ability of the rotenone-induced PD rats by inhibiting apoptosis in the cerebellum. Apoptosis suppressing effect of treadmill running on rotenone-induced PD was achieved via suppression of reactive astrocyte and inhibition of microglial activation.
Acute liver injury (ALI) causes life-threatening clinical problem, and its underlying etiology includes inflammation and apoptosis. An adenosine A2A receptor agonist, polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects by inhibiting the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In the current study, the protective effect of PDRN against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced ALI was investigated using mice. For the induction of ALI, mice received intraperitoneal inj
Ischemic colitis is resulted from an inadequate blood supply to a segment or entire colon. Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), extracted from salmon sperm, has been reported to exert anti‐inflammatory and anti‐ischemic effects through the adenosine A 2A receptor (A 2A R). We investigated whether PDRN possesses therapeutic effectiveness on ischemic colitis rats. Ischemic colitis was induced by selective devascularization. The skin temperature on the ischemic colitis‐induced region was determined. To
Cerebral ischemia causes tissue death owing to occlusion of the cerebral blood vessels, and cerebral ischemia activates mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and induces secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Adenosine A2A receptor agonist, polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), suppresses the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and exhibits anti-inflammatory effect. In the current study, the therapeutic effect of PDRN on cerebral ischemia was evaluated using gerbils. For the induction of cereb
Bisphosphonates are generally used as therapeutic agents for bone diseases. However, previous reports on bisphosphonates‑related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) demonstrated that inflammation triggers and worsens the disease. Recently, polydeoxynucleotide (PDRN), an A2A receptor agonist, has been suggested for the treatment of various diseases and broadly studied for its anti‑inflammatory effect. The present study aimed to measure the effect of PDRN on macrophage cells treated with zoledronic a
Background. Sciatic nerve injury develops from a variety of pathological causes, including traumatic injury and neuroinflammatory disorders, which are accompanied by pathological changes that have a critical impact on neuropathic pain and locomotor activity. Extracts of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans (SSM) are used in traditional medicine for the treatment of a wide range of neuropathic diseases, including lower back pain, peripheral neuropathy, and sciatic nerve injury. Although SSM shows ant
Dexmedetomidine (Precedex) is a selective α2-adrenoceptor agonist that shows opioid-sparing effects with reduced inhalational anesthetic requirement. Since the possibility that dexmedetomidine could induce nerve degeneration has not been completely ruled out, we evaluated whether it can induce apoptosis in rats when used in a nerve block. We performed hematoxylin and eosin staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assays, immunohistochemistry for cas
Based on these results, tamsulosin, an α1-adrenoceptor antagonist, could be used to attenuate bladder dysfunction following SCI. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the exact mechanism and effects of tamsulosin on the afferent pathways of micturition.
Purpose: The functions of the lower urinary tract (LUT), such as voiding and storing urine, are dependent on complex central neural networks located in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral ganglia. Thus, the functions of the LUT are susceptible to various neurologic disorders including spinal cord injury (SCI). SCI at the cervical or thoracic levels disrupts voluntary control of voiding and the normal reflex pathways coordinating bladder and sphincter functions. In this context, it is notewort
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of intraoperative balanced 6% hydroxyethyl starch (HES) 130/0.4 on postoperative blood loss and the coagulation profile. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: The safety of colloid versus crystalloid transfusion for bleeding and coagulation during major spine surgery remains controversial and only a few studies exist. Thus, we compared the effects of balanced 6% HES 130/0.4 and crystalloid on postop
