15These results suggest that EAT may reflect the amount of visceral fat, which is associated with insulin resistance and inflammation. The echocardiographic measurement of EAT may provide additional information for assessing CAD risk and predicting the extent and activity of CAD.
The standardized techniques of blood pressure measurement in the clinic are emphasized and the indications for ambulatory and/or home blood pressure monitoring are specified more broadly. The epidemiologic findings specific to Korean population related to blood pressure are reviewed. Cardiovascular risk of hypertensive patients are stratified based upon the data of a Korean population cohort study.
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) remains globally the leading cause of death and long-term morbidity. Among the many manifestations of CAD, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), ranging from unstable angina to acute myocardial infarction, is the most catastrophic event due to our inability to predict its occurrence. Despite improved treatments of CAD, ACS results in sudden death or permanent disability in a substantial percentage of patients. If we could predict the timing of ACS or better yet prevent its
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) can measure 24-hour blood pressure (BP), including nocturnal BP and diurnal variations. This feature of ABPM could be of value in Asian populations for preventing cardiovascular events. However, no study has yet investigated regarding the use of ABPM in actual clinical settings in Asian countries/regions. In this study, 11 experts from 11 countries/regions were asked to answer questionnaires regarding the use of ABPM. We found that its use was very lim
2',6'-Dimethyltyrosine-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH2 provides a cardioprotective effect against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in vivo.
Incorporating aggressive lifestyle modifications along with antihypertensive medication therapy is a crucial treatment strategy to enhance the control rate of hypertension. Dietary modification is one of the important lifestyle interventions for hypertension, and it has been proven to have a clear effect. Among food ingredients, sodium and potassium have been found to have the strongest association with blood pressure. The blood pressure-lowering effect of a low sodium diet and a high potassium
After menopause, women have not only higher total body fat percentage but also its different distribution, which independently correlates with cardiovascular disease risk factors. Therefore, this change in body fat may cause the sharp increase in cardiovascular disease incidence in middle-aged women, especially after menopause.
We report the expression of CRP in HCC for the first time. CRP expression was associated with poor cancer-specific survival in patients with resectable HCC.
OBJECTIVES: Cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) is a representative marker of myocardial injury. Elevation of cTnI is frequently observed in patients with hypertensive crisis, but few studies have examined its prognostic significance in hypertensive crisis. We aimed to determine whether cTnI could predict all-cause mortality in patients with hypertensive crisis visiting the emergency department (ED). METHODS: This observational study included patients aged ≥18 years who visited an ED between 2016 and 2019
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate whether nocturnal blood pressure (BP), established on the basis of a single 24-h BP monitoring, is a stronger predictor of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) compared with nondipping status in the essential hypertensive patients. METHODS: A total of 682 hypertensive patients (mean age 56.1 ± 14.5 years, 50.7% women) who underwent echocardiography were enrolled. 'Nondipping status' was defined as a nocturnal SBP fall less than 10% of daytime mea
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular (CV) events, and the disease burden is rising rapidly. An important contributor to CV events and CKD progression is high blood pressure (BP). The main mechanisms of hypertension in early and advanced CKD are renin-angiotensin system activation and volume overload, respectively. Sodium retention is well known as a factor for high BP in CKD. However, a BP increase in response to total body sodium or volume overload ca
It is not clear whether the inverse relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and blood pressure (BP) could be generalizable to the general elderly population. We used data from the fourth and fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The study sample consisted of 8439 men and postmenopausal women aged 50 years and older. We evaluated the relationship between BMD and BP. When adjusted for covariates, femur neck T-score [coefficient = -0.391, 95% confidence interval (CI)
