15Robotic rectal cancer resection can be safely performed by experienced laparoscopic surgeons, with acceptable short-term outcomes comparable to those for laparoscopic resection.
Single-stage robotic dissection for rectal cancer surgery is feasible, and its short-term outcome is acceptable. Our technique can be a suitable procedure to maximize the advantages of the da Vinci system.
BACKGROUND: Robotic total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer has rapidly increased and has shown short-term outcomes comparable to conventional laparoscopic total mesorectal excision. However, data for long-term oncologic outcomes are limited. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate long-term oncologic outcomes of robotic total mesorectal excision compared with laparoscopic total mesorectal excision. DESIGN: This was a retrospective study. SETTINGS: This study was conducted in a terti
INTRODUCTION: In 2022 chatGPT™ (OpenAI, San Francisco) was introduced to the public. The complex reasoning and the natural language processing (NLP) ability of the AI platform has generated much excitement about the potential applications. This study conducted a preliminary analysis of the chatGPT™'s ability to formulate a management plan in accordance with oncological principles for patients with colorectal cancer. METHODOLOGY: Colorectal cancer cases discussed in the multidisciplinary tumor (M
Although the incidence of local recurrence after curative resection of rectal cancer has decreased due to the understanding of the anatomy of pelvic structures and the adoption of total mesorectal excision, local recurrence in the pelvis still remains a significant and troublesome complication. While surgery for recurrent rectal cancer may offer a chance for a cure, conservative management, including radiation and chemotherapy, remain widely accepted courses of treatment. Recent improvement in i
BACKGROUND/AIMS: It was hypothesized that a portion of the sigmoid colon and accompanying marginal artery can be preserved by omitting the complete mobilization of the splenic flexure, yet achieve safe anastomosis. This study was designed to compare the surgical safety of omitting splenic flexure mobilization during laparoscopic rectal surgery in patients with rectal cancer. METHODOLOGY: Between September 2006 and January 2008, laparoscopic rectal resection was performed in 160 consecutive patie
BACKGROUND: A reversal of Hartmann's procedure can be performed using either a laparoscopic or open approach. However, laparoscopic reversal (LR) of Hartmann's procedure is challenging. This study was designed to compare the results between open and laparoscopic approaches. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of prospectively collected data. We analysed 29 patients who received Hartmann's reversal at Korea University Anam Hospital between April 2007 and September 2014. All patients underwent
This study aimed to assess recurrence patterns and related risk factors following curative resection of colorectal cancer (CRC). This retrospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary care center, including 2622 patients with stage I–III CRC who underwent curative resection between 2008 and 2018. Hazard rates of recurrence were calculated using a hazard function. The primary outcome was the peak recurrence time after curative resection and secondary outcomes were prognostic factors a
Background: We investigated the association of w May aist circumference (WC) and abdominal obesity with the incident colorectal cancer risk in Korean adults. Methods: This nationwide population-based cohort study was based on health insurance claims data. We analyzed data from 9,959,605 participants acquired through health check-ups of the Korean National Health Insurance Service in 2009 who were followed up until the end of 2017. We performed multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression an

BACKGROUND: Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGB) is generally defined as recurrent acute or chronic bleeding for which no source has been identified by routine radiologic and endoscopic examination. The aim of this study was to report our early experiences detecting small bowel bleeding by capsule endoscopy (CE) and the results of laparoscopy assisted surgery for OGB. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-five patients with OGB were examined by CE. Twelve of 24 patients in the active bleeding group

Robotic dexterity was not significantly affected by laparoscopic experience in this study. Laparoscopic experience is not an important factor for learning robotic skills.
