SJR Q3Physical Activity and NutritionOA

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise training on a high fat diet (HFD)-induced fatty liver and its metabolic complications in C57BL/6 mice. METHODS: Mice at 5-month old (n = 30) were randomly assigned to standard chow (SC + CON, n = 10) and high-fat diet (HFD, n = 20), and they were subjected to SC and HFD, respectively, for 23-week. After 15-week of HFD, mice in the HFD group were further assigned to HFD (HFD + CON, n = 10) or exercise training (HFD

Insulin Resistance and Its Association with Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Children
Jinkyung Cho, Haeryun Hong, Soohyun Park, Shinuk Kim, Hyun‐Sik Kang
SJR Q2BioMed Research InternationalOA

Background . This study investigated the association between insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children. Methods . A cross-sectional study involving 1036 healthy children aged between 7 and 13 years was conducted. Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated as an index of IR. Participants were classified according to the HOMA-IR quartiles. Results . Incremental, linear trends were found in age (<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Mat

Relationships between Socioeconomic Status, Handgrip Strength, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Middle-Aged Adults
Jinkyung Cho, Inhwan Lee, Dong‐Ho Park, Hyo‐Bum Kwak, Kisuk Min
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

Although low socioeconomic status (SES) and decreased muscle strength have been found to be associated with the risk factors of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), including insulin resistance, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, the associations among SES, muscle strength, and NAFLD are still unclear. We aimed to investigate the combined effect of SES and relative handgrip strength (HGS) on the risk of NAFLD in middle-aged adults. Data from 5272 middle-aged adults who participated in the Ko

Exercise as a Therapeutic Strategy for Sarcopenia in Heart Failure: Insights into Underlying Mechanisms
Jinkyung Cho, Youngju Choi, Pavol Sajgalik, Mi‐Hyun No, Sang-Hyun Lee, Sujin Kim, Jun‐Won Heo, Eun‐Jeong Cho, Eunwook Chang, Ju‐Hee Kang, Hyo‐Bum Kwak, Dong‐Ho Park
SJR Q1CellsOA

Sarcopenia, a syndrome commonly seen in elderly populations, is often characterized by a gradual loss of skeletal muscle, leading to the decline of muscle strength and physical performance. Growing evidence suggests that the prevalence of sarcopenia increases in patients with heart failure (HF), which is a dominant pathogenesis in the aging heart. HF causes diverse metabolic complications that may result in sarcopenia. Therefore, sarcopenia may act as a strong predictor of frailty, disability, a

Background . Little information is available about molecular markers for sarcopenia and osteoporosis in Asian populations. Objective . This study investigated the association of the ACTN3 polymorphism with sarcopenia and osteoporotic status in older Korean adults. Methods . Older Korean 62 men and 270 women (mean age 73.7 ± 6.6 years) participated in this study. Body mass index, percent body fatness, appendicular skeletal muscle mass, and bone mineral density of the lumbar spine, femur, and tota

SJR Q1Journal of EpidemiologyOA

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to explore the associations between weight status, physical activity, and depression in Korean older adults. METHODS: We used the baseline data drawn from the 2008 baseline survey utilized in the Living Profiles of Older People Survey, comprised of 15,146 community-dwelling older people (42.6% men and 57.4% women) aged 60 years and older residing in the Republic of Korea. After excluding respondents with missing data on height, weight, and physical activity (PA), dat

Exercise training attenuates pulmonary inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in a mouse model of high-fat high-carbohydrate-induced NAFLD
Jinkyung Cho, Bruce D. Johnson, Kymberly D. Watt, Alexander S. Niven, Dongwook Yeo, Chul‐Ho Kim
SJR Q1BMC MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can lead to pulmonary dysfunction that is associated with pulmonary inflammation. Moreover, little is known regarding the therapeutic role of exercise training on pulmonary pathophysiology in NAFLD. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of exercise training on high-fat high-carbohydrate (HFHC)-induced pulmonary dysfunction in C57BL/6 mice. METHODS: Male C57BL/6 mice (N = 40) were fed a standard Chow (n = 20) or an HFHC (n = 20) di

Ferulic acid maintains the self-renewal capacity of embryo stem cells and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in high fat diet-induced obese mice
Jinkyung Cho, Eunmi Park
SJR Q1The Journal of Nutritional BiochemistryOA

Self-renewal is required for embryo stem cells (ESCs) and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs). This study examined the ability of ferulic acid in mouse ESCs and ADMSCs, in a high fat diet-induced mouse model. Initially, five natural compounds of ferulic acid, xanthohumol, curcumin, ascorbic acid, and quercetin were screened in ESCs using an alkaline phosphate +(AP+) assay, as a self-renewal biomarker. A ferulic acid treatment was the highest AP+ stain

This study investigated the suppressive effect of exercise preconditioning against colitis induced by high-fat diet (HF) plus dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in wild-type mice. Male mice (C57BL/6) aged 6 weeks were assigned to standard chow (SC, n = 10) or HF (n = 10) or HF followed by DSS (HF+DSS, n = 10) or exercise preconditioning (EX) followed by HF+DSS (EX+HF+DSS, n = 10) for a total of 15 weeks. After 12 weeks of dietary treatments and/or exercise preconditioning, mice in the DSS groups were

SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

PURPOSE: To investigate whether allelic polymorphism of haptoglobin (Hp) is associated with premature rupture of membrane (PROM), the Hp phenotypes of pregnant women with PROM were analyzed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The Hp phenotypes of 221 pregnant Korean women (187 control and 34 PROM patients) were determined by benzidine/hydrogen peroxide staining, following native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of hemoglobin-mixed sera. The Hp allele frequencies were calculated from the data of Hp phenotyp
