15Although tension-type headache (TTH) is a frequent type of headache disorder and imposes a significant burden, there is scant information about the prevalence and impact of comorbid anxiety and depression among individuals with TTH. We investigated the prevalence and clinical impact of anxiety and depression among patients with TTH in the general population. We recruited Korean participants aged 19-69 years using a two-stage clustered random sampling method. To identify the presence of headache
The prevalence of insufficient sleep was significantly higher among migraineurs compared to that in non-migraine headache or non-headache group.
Background Sleep disturbances are closely related to migraine. Nevertheless, information regarding the impact of short sleep duration and poor sleep quality on the clinical presentation of migraine at population level is limited. Methods This study was a nationwide population-based survey on adults aged 19-69 years. Headache frequency (attacks/month) and intensity (visual analogue scale, 0-10) were documented. Short sleep duration and poor sleep quality were defined as average sleep duration <6
BACKGROUND: Although anxiety and depression have been classified as distinct traits of affective disorders, previous studies have reported their co-occurrence in subjects with migraine. However, few reports are available on the clinical implications of this comorbidity. This study is to assess the comorbidity of anxiety and depression in subjects with migraine and its clinical implications in a population-based sample from Korea. METHODS: We selected Korean subjects aged 19-69 years by the strat
Our findings indicate that insomnia is prevalent among individuals with TTH. Moreover, insomnia was associated with exacerbation of headache symptoms and psychiatric comorbidities. Therefore, identification of insomnia among individuals with TTH is required to improve the management of headache symptoms in such patients.
BACKGROUND: Epidemiological data on probable migraine (PM) in Asia have rarely been reported. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and disability of PM in comparison with strict migraine (SM) in Korea. METHODS: The Korean Headache Survey (KHS) is a nationwide interview survey that investigates the status of headache disorders among adults aged 19-69. We used data from the KHS. RESULTS: In a representative sample of 1507 individuals, the one-year prevalence of SM w
Background: Quality-of-life measurement represents an important tool for evaluating the management and impact of headache on individuals and society. The Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6) is a simple instrument developed to assess headache-related disability in Western countries. The objective of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Korean HIT-6. Methods: Participants were recruited from patients who visited the Neurology Clinic of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital
Poor sleep quality was prevalent among participants with PM. It was associated with an exacerbation of PM symptoms. Our findings suggest that proper evaluation and treatment for poor sleep quality are needed in the management of PM.
Background Although probable migraine (PM) is common among headache sufferers, there is little knowledge of the prevalence and impacts of comorbid anxiety and depression in patients with PM. We assessed the prevalence and impact of anxiety and depression among PM sufferers in the general population. Methods We recruited Korean individuals aged 19-69 years via stratified random sampling and assessed headache type, anxiety, and depression among them using structured interviews. Results In a repres
Information on sex differences in the association between chronotype and depression is scarce. We aimed to investigate these differences using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2016. Chronotypes were categorised based on mid-sleep time on free days corrected by sleep debt accumulated on workdays (MSFsc): early type, < mean MSFsc - 1 standard deviation (SD); intermediate type, between mean MSFsc - 1 SD and MSFsc + 1 SD; and late type, > mean MSFsc + 1 SD. BACKGROUND: Headache has been reported to be associated with mobile phone (MP) use in some individuals. The causal relationship between headache associated with MP use (HAMP) and MP use is currently undetermined. Identifying the clinical features of HAMP may help in clarifying the pathophysiology of HAMP and in managing symptoms of individuals with HAMP. The aim of the present study is to describe the clinical features of HAMP. METHODS: A 14-item questionnaire investigating MP use and headache w
