13Carcinoma erysipelatoides, also known as inflammatory metastatic carcinoma, is a rare form of cutaneous metastasis. It is most commonly caused by breast carcinoma, but rarely associated with gastric adenocarcinoma. Herein, we report an unusual case of carcinoma erysipelatoides in a 55year-old female who had been diagnosed with signet ring cell carcinoma of the stomach metastasizing to ovaries. (Ann Dermatol 23(3) 375∼378, 2011)
Kaposi sarcoma is a lympho-angioproliferative disease of the skin and viscera. Because the natural history of Kaposi sarcoma is variable, the assessment of therapy may be difficult and optimal therapy has yet to be determined. Pentoxifylline has been used to treat various dermatologic diseases, but its effectiveness in Kaposi sarcoma has not been reported. We now report a case of Kaposi sarcoma in a 76-year-old man who improved after treatment with oral pentoxifylline.
Kikuchi’s disease (KD), histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare self-limited lymphadenopathy, which usually affects young women. KD has been reported to precede, coexist with or follow the diagnosis of other entities, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), adult-onset Still’s disease, Hashimoto's disease, and viral infections. In a few cases, KD is associated with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), without systemic involvement. Herein, we report the first Korean case of KD associ
Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown origin that may affect multiple organs including the lung, mediastinal and peripheral lymph nodes, eyes, and skin. Although cutaneous manifestations occur in around 25% cases, to our knowledge, oral mucosal involvement is very rare as a leading symptom of sarcoidosis. A 28-year-old female presented with localized skin-colored to yellowish indurated papules and plaques on the lower lip mucosa. The lesions were presented for the past month
Cutaneous metastasis originating from lung cancer is relatively rare and accounts for only 0.5∼6.7% of of lung cancer metastases. In general, there is a histomorphologic resemblance between primary carcinoma and cutaneous metastatic carcinoma. A 45-year-old woman presented with a painless 0.8 cm erythematous nodule on her left shoulder. During the past 3 years, she had been receiving chemotherapy for the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma with bone metastases. A histopathological examination of th
Background: Patients with skin barrier dysfunction often coincides with pruritus, creating a ‘vicious cycle’ of dry skin and itching. Recently, Cynanchum atratum (CA) extract and its constituents have demonstrated effects on atopic dermatitis both in vivo and in vitro. Objective: This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of a moisturizer infused with CA extract in enhancing epidermal barrier function and reducing pruritus. Methods: A total 36 participants with skin barrier dysfunction w
Background: Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) with alopecia of the scalp can result in permanent hair loss. Therefore,it is important to evaluate skin lesions and establish appropriate treatment plans for scalp DLE with alopecia. Objective: We aimed to investigate the dermoscopic features of scalp DLE with alopecia and to determine thecorrelation between dermoscopic findings and treatment efficacy. Methods: Thirty-one patients histopathologically diagnosed with scalp DLE and alopecia were includ
Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by multiple nodules and papules, whichare accompanied by intense pruritus. Treatment is challenging and requires a diverse approach. Recently, a fewreports have described successful treatment of PN with dupilumab. We report a case of a patient withtreatment-resistant PN who was successfully treated with dupilumab. Dupilumab was administered at the standarddose: an initial induction dose of 600 mg, followed by 300 mg ever
Background: Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are often misdiagnosed as benign lesions, leading to inappropriate laser ablation. Misidentification may cause delays in proper diagnosis and surgical intervention, potentially affecting patient outcomes. Objective: We investigated the percentage of patients with BCC who were inappropriately treated with laser ablation following the introduction of dermoscopic examination reimbursement and analyzed their clinical and histological characteristics. Methods:
