15Zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)-based membranes are emerging materials that are highlyattractive for gas separation and purification. Highly reproducible defect-free ZIF membranes with well-defined pore structures can be formed in a number of ways. The performance of ZIF membranes dependslargely on the preparation technique, application type, and operating conditions. Here, we review themethods of ZIF membrane preparation and discuss their performance in separating condensable andincondensa
In this study, the central composite rotatable design (CCRD) was employed to investigate the effects of the feedstock feed rate, biomass particle size, pyrolysis temperature, and residence time on the fast pyrolysis of palm kernel cake. A mathematical model for the liquid product yield was developed and applied to obtain a maximum yield of 49.5 wt%. The GC–MS analyses of the bio-oils at the two different temperatures of 400 and 500 8C showed that they were a complex mixture composed of mostly ox
Palm kernel cake was solvothermally liquefied to prepare biopolyols. The liquefaction solvent waspolyethylene glycol 400 (PEG #400)-blended glycerol and sulfuric acid was used as the catalyst. Theoptimal liquefaction conditions for biopolyol production were determined to be PEG#400/glycerol = 9/1,15%(w/w) biomass loading, 3%(w/w) acid loading, and liquefaction at 150 8C for 90 min. The optimalconditions yielded 92.8% biomass conversion. The hydroxyl and acid numbers of biopolyol at optimalcondit
Highly selective ZIF-8 membranes were successfully prepared by electrospray deposition for H2/CO2separation. This novel method produced ZIF-8membranes in a facile and time-efficientmanner using anelectrostatic force-assisted coating approach. In addition, the membrane thickness could be controlledeasily by simply varying the deposition time. Results from the experiment indicate that the membraneperformed preeminently in comparison with previously reported glassy and polymeric membranes forH2/CO2
Conventionally, MIL-101(Cr) has been directly prepared from analytically pure trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) with the assistance of hydrofluoric acid (HF). Here, we report a novel approach of HF-free synthesisof MIL-101(Cr) using a waste Cr source. A wastewater model containing a high concentration ofhexavalent Cr (Cr(VI)) wasfirst reduced by sulfite to obtain Cr(III) at room temperature and subsequently, the resulting solution was directly used as a precursor for MIL-101(Cr) synthesis without HF.
One of the important metal-organic frameworks known as UiO-66 has received significant attention recently due to its unprecedented chemical and thermal stability, with exceptionally high surface area. We prepared UiO-66 particles by a rapid solvothermal method which took only 30min at 120 oC to prepare, compared to the previous work which took longer than 12 h. Changing the precursor’s concentration ratio from 0.5 to 1.5 and reaction temperature from 80 oC to 140 oC resulted in the increase of U
γ-AlOOH(boehmite)/PVA composite granules with high adsorption performance towards Cr(VI) were successfully synthesized by combining sol–gel and oil-drop methods. The γ-AlOOH/PVA sample with 35 wt% PVA showed the highest Cr(IV) adsorption capacity of 35.91 mg/g, which was much higher than that of the pure γ-AlOOH sample (17.08 mg/g). The adsorption behaviors of Cr(VI) ions onto the γ-AlOOH and γ-AlOOH/PVA granules were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the adsorption me
Sewage sludge acquired from Giheung Respia treatment facility was characterized and converted into gas,bio-oil and char by pyrolysis. The rate of conversion as a function of temperature was obtained from differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) for different heating rates. The activation energy calculated from data selected conversions shows that the activation energy decreased with increasing conversion up to 10%, steadily increased from 10 to 70%, and substantially increased from 70 to 90
A dense yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-carbonate membrane that was impermeable to gas at low temperature became highly permeable to CO2 at temperature above the melting point of the carbonate. The CO2 permeance across the YSZ-molten carbonate dual-phase membrane was observed to be higher than 0.1 × 10-8 mol/m2/Pa/s at temperature >650 ℃. The movement of ions was promoted at high temperature as YSZ and molten carbonate became highly conductive to oxygen ions and carbonate species, respectively.
Cu-doped MOF-235 particles with various Cu concentrations were successfully prepared using the solvothermal method and investigated for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The structural properties of the MOF-235 samples were affected by the Cu concentrations. The particle size, surface area, and pore volume of the sample were decreased gradually with increasing of Cu amount. The photocatalytic degradation of MB indicated that Cu-doped MOF-235 outperformed pur
Mesoporous Cr2O3 microspheres with improved pore structure were prepared by spray pyrolysis method. A precursor solution was nebulized into fine droplets containing chromium salt and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), which were then pyrolyzed to Cr2O3/Cx microspheres inside a tubular furnace, followed by post-heat treatment to eliminate the carbonaceous material. The produced Cr2O3 particles had a diameter of 0.5-1 m and their textural properties could be tuned by adjusting CTAB amount and
Graphite oxide (GrO), as a superb platform with highly dense arrays of atoms and abundantfunctionalities, can increase dispersive forces within metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which providesa feasible strategy to control physicochemical properties of MOFs. In this study, a series of hybrid GrO/MIL-101(Cr) (GrO@MCr) nanocomposites were readily prepared via hydrothermal synthesis. Theprepared composites were applied to remove methyl orange (MO) and reactive blue 198 (RB198) asorganic pollutants f
