Analysis of Vertical Stiffness Characteristics Based on Spoke Shape of Non-Pneumatic Tire
Jongkeun Sim, Ji-Yeon Hong, Insu Cho, Jinwook Lee
SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Recently, research regarding non-pneumatic tires that are resistant to punctures has been actively conducted, and the spoke structure design of non-pneumatic tires has been found to be a crucial factor. This study aimed to analyze the vertical stiffness characteristics of a non-pneumatic tire based on the shape of the spoke under the application of a vertical load. The three-dimensional model of a commercial non-pneumatic tire was obtained from the manufacturer (Kumho Tire Co., Inc., Gwangju, Ko

Investigation on the Effects of Internal EGR by Variable Exhaust Valve Actuation with Post Injection on Auto-ignited Combustion and Emission Performance
Insu Cho, Yumin Lee, Jinwook Lee
SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Variable valve mechanisms are usually applied to a gasoline combustion engine to improve its power performance by controlling the amount of intake air according to the operating load. These mechanisms offer one possibility of resolving the conflict of objectives between a further reduction of raw emissions and an improvement in fuel efficiency. In recent years, variable valve control systems have become extremely important in the diesel combustion engine. Importantly, it has been shown that ther

SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Considering the future development in vehicle platooning technology and the multiple models pertaining to complex road environments involving freight cars and general vehicles, the speed and distance of a vehicle model were set as variables in this study. This study aimed at analyzing the effect of currents acting differently using SolidWorks Flow Simulation tool for the vehicle platooning between different models of trucks that are currently being studied actively and sports utility vehicle (SU

Conflicts of Interest and Change in Original Intent: A Case Study of Vacant and Abandoned Homes Repurposed as Community Gardens in a Shrinking City, Daegu, South Korea
Jin-Wook Lee, Jong-Sang Sung
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

As part of an urban policy designed to revive South Korea’s shrinking cities, vacant residential structures are being demolished and the resulting empty plots transformed into public spaces. This study discursively examines this process, its stakeholders, and the sources of conflict among them in the neighborhood of Daebong 2 in Daegu, South Korea. Additionally, solutions for maintaining public interest are explored. Employees and members of relevant municipal authorities and non-profit organiza

Experimental Investigation on OBD Signal and PN Emission Characteristics by Damaged-DPF Types of 2.0 L Diesel Vehicle

SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is an exhaust after-treatment device designed to capture and store exhaust particulate matter, such as soot and ash, to reduce emissions from diesel-powered vehicles. A DPF has a finite capacity and typically uses a substrate made of ceramic material that is formed into a honeycomb structure. Diesel particulate filters play an important role in diesel-fueled vehicles. Failure to maintain these filters can have significant consequences for vehicles. In this study

A Study on the Optimal Actuation Structure Design of a Direct Needle-Driven Piezo Injector for a CRDi Engine
Sangik Han, Juhwan Kim, Jinwook Lee
SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Recently, the high-pressure fuel injection performance of common-rail direct injection (CRDi) engines has become more important, due to the need to improve the multi-injection strategy. A multiple injection strategy provides better emission and fuel economy characteristics than a normal single injection scheme. The CRDi engine performance changes with the type of high-pressure electro-mechanical injector that is used and its injection response in a multi-injection scheme. In this study, a direct

Numerical Analysis of the Vehicle Damping Performance of a Magnetorheological Damper with an Additional Flow Energy Path

SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Vehicles experience various frequency excitations from road surfaces. Recent research has focused on active dampers that adapt their damping forces according to these conditions. However, traditional magnetorheological (MR) dampers face a “block-up phenomenon” that limits their effectiveness. To address this, additional flow-type MR dampers have been proposed, although revised designs are required to accommodate changes in damping force characteristics. This study investigates the damping perfor

A Study on Nozzle Flow and Spray Characteristics of Piezo Injector for Next Generation High Response Injection
Jinwook Lee, Kyoungdoug Min
SJR Q4Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers B

Most diesel injector, which is currently used in high-pressure common rail fuel injection system of diesel engine, is driven by the solenoid coil energy for its needle movement. The main disadvantage of this solenoid-driven injector is a high power consumption, high power loss through solenoid coil and relatively fixed needle response’s problem. In this study, a prototype piezo-driven injector, as a new injector mechanism driven by piezoelectric energy based on the concept of inverse piezo-elect

Nonequilibrium Distribution Function Theory of Many-Particle Effects in the Reversible Reactions of the Type A+B↔ C+B
이진욱, Jesik Uhm, 이우진, 성재영, 이상엽

We study the relaxation kinetics of reversible reactions of the type A + B F C + B by applying the many-particle kernel theory, which we have developed to investigate many-particle effects on general diffusion-influenced reactions. It is shown that for the target model, where A and C molecules are immobile and their interconversion is induced by the encounter with the B molecules that are present in much excess, the many-particle kernel theory gives a result that coincides with the known exact r

Analysis of Hydraulic Characteristics of Two Solenoid-driven Injectors for CRDi System
Jinwook Lee, Junghyup Lee, Mun-Seog Kim
SJR Q3Transactions of Korean Society of Automotive Engineers

The injection nozzle of an electro-hydraulic injector for the common rail Diesel fuel injection system is being opened and closed by movement of a injector's needle which is balanced by pressure at the nozzle seat and at the needle control chamber, at the opposite end of the needle. In this study, the slenoid actuator was considered as a prime movers in high pressure Diesel injector. Namely a solenoid-driven Diesel injector with different driving current types, as a general method driven by sole

As Korea’s first national garden, the Suncheon Bay National Garden is a major tourist attraction and a space of enjoyment for visitors. However, in 2016 its sudden establishment necessitates many discussions and measures, and requires that it seek direction based on current perceptions for its continued use in the future. This study begins a search for that direction by examining perspectives of local residents and non-local visitors on the relationships between visitors’ purposes, spatial needs

OA

Abstract This two-part paper describes a new approach to determine the effect of surface waviness, arising from manufacture of composite fan blades, on transition onset location movement and hence fan profile losses. The approach includes analysis and computations of unsteady disturbances in boundary layers over a wavy surface, assessed and supported by wind tunnel measurements of these disturbances and the transition location. An integrated framework is developed for analysis of surface wavines
