15Seismic reflection profiles reveal steeply landward-dipping splay faults in the rupture area of the magnitude (M) 8.1 Tonankai earthquake in the Nankai subduction zone. These splay faults branch upward from the plate-boundary interface (that is, the subduction zone) at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, approximately 50 to 55 kilometers landward of the trough axis, breaking through the upper crustal plate. Slip on the active splay fault may be an important mechanism that accommodates the el
A fat-suppressed T2-weighted sagittal sequence of MRI was a highly sensitive, specific, and accurate method of evaluating posterior ligament complex injury. Based on the results of this study, a fat-suppressed T2-weighted sagittal sequence of MRIs is recommended for the accurate evaluation of posterior ligament complex injury and would be helpful in the selection of treatment options.

A multi‐channel seismic (MCS) reflection survey was conducted to study the structure of the Nankai convergent margin off Shikoku Island in July 1997. Based on reflection characteristics, we could identify three major seismic reflection units, i.e., Units A, B, and C. The MCS data as well as swath‐bathymetric data reveal a buried circular seamount subducting beneath the Nankai accretionary prism. The subducting seamount is responsible for deformation of the accretionary wedge, resulting in a comp
We present the results of structural and stratigraphic interpretations for the multichannel seismic profiles to reveal the structure of the Nankai accretionary wedge off Shikoku Island. On the basis of reflection characteristics we identify three major seismic units that correspond to a unit consisting of both Oligocene‐Miocene accretionary prism and the sedimentary cover (unit A), a unit of underthrust Miocene‐Pliocene hemipelagic sediments (unit B), and a unit of subducting pre‐Miocene oceanic
In 1997, a seismic experiment using an airgun array and ocean bottom seismographs (OBSs) was performed in the forearc region of the northeastern Japan (NEJ) arc. The objectives of this experiment were to clarify seismic structures of the forearc region off Sanriku, Japan using airgun-OBS data and to understand the nature of the Japan trench seismogenic zone. Fundamental features of the structure are as follows:
Inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α, PGE2, and NO) seem to play a crucial role in hypertrophy and ossification of LF. Degenerated, herniated intervertebral disks, and facet arthrosis may influence LF through inflammatory cytokines and cause hypertrophy and ossification of LF.
A poor surgical outcome would be inevitable because of the worsening of symptoms owing to the natural history of PD. Therefore, our current study suggested surgical indication should be exercised cautiously in the patients with PD and spinal stenosis.
A multi‐channel seismic (MCS) reflection survey was conducted to study the subsurface structure of the coseismic slip zone of the 1946 Nankai earthquake (Mw=8.2) off Shikoku Island in 1997. We could identify a splay fault system consisting of several sigmoid out‐of‐sequence thrust (OST) faults dipping landward with slope 10∼25° on the poststack depth migrated MCS profiles. Most of the OSTs are apparently developed from the subducting oceanic basement to the seafloor in the forearc region, cuttin
Vitamin D deficiency was common in patients with LSS. However, vitamin D status was improved after decompressive surgery, and postoperative 25-OHD level was significantly correlated with surgical outcomes.
Abstract The Kyushu-Palau ridge, a remnant arc on the Philippine Sea Plate, subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate along the westernmost part of the Nankai Trough. A seismic reflection profile on strike line images the ∼70-km-wide Kyushu-Palau ridge where it subducts beneath the toe of the forearc accretionary wedge. The geomagnetic anomaly signature, seafloor topographic features, wide-angle refraction data, and on-land geomorphologic evidence enable us to trace the forearc extension of the subduc
Our study highlights the fact that limited physical activity results in high bone turnover rate in patients with LSS.
