Kidney organoids derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) have extensive potential for disease modelling and regenerative medicine. However, the limited vascularization and immaturity of kidney organoids have been still remained to overcome. Extracellular matrix (ECM) can provide mechanical support and a biochemical microenvironment for cell growth and differentiation. Here in vitro methods using a kidney decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) hydrogel to culture hPSC-derived kidney

There is ongoing debate regarding the significance of complete or near-complete response after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for rectal cancer. This study assessed the prognostic value of the Dworak tumor regression grade (TRG) following neoadjuvant CRT and surgery primarily in patients with pathological stage (ypStage) II and III rectal cancer. The records of 331 patients who underwent neoadjuvant CRT followed by total mesorectal excision between 2004 and 2015 were retrospectively reviewe

Tumor Heterogeneity in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2)-Positive Advanced Gastric Cancer Assessed by CT Texture Analysis: Association with Survival after Trastuzumab Treatment

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

BACKGROUND: Image texture analysis is a noninvasive technique for quantifying intratumoral heterogeneity, with derived texture features reported to be closely related to the treatment outcome of tumors. Gastric cancer is one of the most common tumors and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although trastuzumab is associated with a survival gain among patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced gastric cancer, optimal patient selection i

The prognostic significance of ataxia-telangiectasia-mutated (ATM) expression in gastric cancer remains unclear. The functional loss of ATM gene exhibits a biologic correlation with microsatellite instability (MSI). In this study, we investigated the significance of ATM expression with MSI by evaluating gastric cancer patients who had underwent curative resection. ATM expression was classified into low ATM expression (-, ±, +) and high ATM expression (++, +++) using immunohistochemistry analysis

Inhibition of the EGFR/HER2 signaling pathway, particularly of downstream PI3K activity, suppressed PD-L1 and release of cytokines, suggesting that EGFR/HER2 inhibition may create a more favorable milieu for tumor immunotherapy.

AIM: We aimed to clarify the prognostic significance of HER2 positivity in advanced gastric cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The cohort included patients with initially metastatic or recurrent gastric cancer treated with first-line modified FOLFOX-6. The HER2 status was analyzed according to modified scoring criteria specific for gastric cancer. RESULTS: HER2 positivity was shown in 10 out of 114 patients (9.0%). The median time-to-progression (TTP) (4.3 months, 95% confidence interval (CI)=3.6-4.9

OBJECTIVE: By using the Korean Pancreatic Cancer (K-PaC) registry, we compared the clinical outcomes of FOLFIRINOX (FFX) and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel (GNP) in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer (MPC). METHODS: We constructed a web-based database of 3748 anonymized patients diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. MPC patients who received first-line FFX or GNP were enrolled. BACKGROUND: Older patients have increased risk of toxicity from chemotherapy. Current prediction tools do not provide information on cumulative risk. METHODS: Patients aged ≥ 70 years with solid cancer were prospectively enrolled. A prediction model was developed for adverse events (AEs) ≥ Grade 3 (G3), based on geriatric assessment (GA), laboratory, and clinical variables. RESULTS: 301 patients were enrolled (median age, 75 years). Median number of chemotherapy cycles was 4. During first-line c
