Nanoscale Pillar-Enhanced Tribological Surfaces as Antifouling Membranes

We present a nonconventional membrane surface modification approach that utilizes surface topography to manipulate the tribology of foulant accumulation on water desalination membranes via imprinting of submicron titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) pillar patterns onto the molecularly structured, flat membrane surface. This versatile approach overcomes the constraint of the conventional approach relying on interfacial polymerization that inevitably leads to the formation of ill-defined surface topography.

A comparative study of combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances and clear aligners in patients with periodontitis
Ji‐Young Han
SJR Q1Journal of Periodontal & Implant ScienceOA

After orthodontic treatment, clinical parameters were improved in the FA and CAT groups with meticulous oral hygiene education and plaque control. Regarding plaque index and gingival index, no significant differences were found between these two groups. We suggest that combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment can improve patients' periodontal health irrespective of orthodontic techniques.

Factors influencing long‐term survival rates of implants placed simultaneously with lateral maxillary sinus floor augmentation: A 6‐ to 20‐year retrospective study
Won‐Bae Park, Kyung Lhi Kang, Ji‐Young Han
SJR Q1Clinical Oral Implants Research

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the long-term influence of residual bone height (RBH), sinus membrane perforation and the presence of voids on the survival of implants placed simultaneously with lateral maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 207 patients (613 implants) who underwent MSFA from 1999 to 2003 and followed up until 2018 were included in this study. RBH and marginal bone loss were assessed using a series of panoramic and periapical radiographs. Cumulative

SJR Q1Clinical Oral Implants Research

Abstract Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effect of bone graft materials and collagen membranes in ridge splitting procedures with immediate implant placement using a dog model. Materials and methods: Mandibular premolars were extracted in five beagle dogs. After 3 months, ridge splitting and placement of three OsseoSpeed ™ implants were performed bilaterally. The gaps between the implants were allocated according to the following eight treatment modalities; Group 1(no graft),

Labial and lingual/palatal bone thickness of maxillary and mandibular anteriors in human cadavers in Koreans
Ji‐Young Han, Gyu Un Jung
SJR Q1Journal of Periodontal & Implant ScienceOA

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the buccal and lingual bone thickness in the anterior teeth and the relationship between bone thickness and the tissue biotype. METHODS: Three male and two female human cadaver heads (mean age, 55.4 years) were used in this study. First, the biotype of periodontium was evaluated and categorized into a thick or a thin group. Next, full thickness reflections of the mandible and the maxilla to expose the underlying bone for accurate measurements in the

Nitric Oxide Induction of Parkin Translocation in PTEN-induced Putative Kinase 1 (PINK1) Deficiency
Ji‐Young Han, Minji Kang, Kyung‐Hee Kim, Pyung‐Lim Han, Hyunseok Kim, Ji‐Young Ha, Jin H. Son
SJR Q1Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

The failure to trigger mitophagy is implicated in the pathogenesis of familial Parkinson disease that is caused by PINK1 or Parkin mutations. According to the prevailing PINK1-Parkin signaling model, mitophagy is promoted by the mitochondrial translocation of Parkin, an essential PINK1-dependent step that occurs via a previously unknown mechanism. Here we determined that critical concentrations of NO was sufficient to induce the mitochondrial translocation of Parkin even in PINK1 deficiency, wit

Clinical factors affecting the longevity of fixed retainers and the influence of fixed retainers on periodontal health in periodontitis patients: a retrospective study
Ji‐Young Han, Seo Hee Park, Joohyung Kim, Kyung‐Gyun Hwang, Chang‐Joo Park
SJR Q1Journal of Periodontal & Implant ScienceOA

Although fixed retainers were bonded in periodontitis patients, periodontal health was well maintained if supportive periodontal treatment with repeated oral hygiene education was provided. Nonetheless, fixed retainer failure occurred more frequently in patients who had stage III (grade B or C) periodontitis or a CI ≥1 at 12-month follow-up after bonding of fixed retainers.

Mitochondrial Homeostasis Molecules: Regulation by a Trio of Recessive Parkinson’s Disease Genes
Ji‐Young Han, Ji‐Soo Kim, Jin H. Son
SJR Q2Experimental NeurobiologyOA

Mitochondria are small organelles that produce the majority of cellular energy as ATP. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD), and rare familial forms of PD provide valuable insight into the pathogenic mechanism underlying mitochondrial impairment, even though the majority of PD cases are sporadic. The regulation of mitochondria is crucial for the maintenance of energy-demanding neuronal functions in the brain. Mitochondrial biogenesis and m

Effect of anti-rheumatic agents on periodontal parameters and biomarkers of inflammation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
한지영, Mark A. Reynolds

Purpose: Anti-rheumatic agents target common molecular pathways of inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and periodontitis. The purpose of this study was to determine the relative effect of anti-rheumatic agents on the levels of inflammatory biomarkers and periodontal inflammation in RA patients with periodontitis. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted of studies comparing periodontal parameters of inflammation, such as bleeding on probing, and biomarkers of inflammat

Opening of Mitochondrial ATP--Sensitive Potassium Channels Evokes Oxygen Radical Generation in Rabbit Heart Slices
Ji‐Young Han, N. Kim, Juhee Park, Dae‐Hyun Seog, Joo Hj, E. Kim
SJR Q2The Journal of Biochemistry

The purpose of this study was to determine whether ATP-sensitive potassium channel (K(ATP) channel) activation generates oxygen free radicals in the rabbit heart. We assayed malondialdehyde (MDA) in rabbit heart slices in vitro as an indicator of oxygen free radical generation. The K(ATP) channel openers, pinacidil and cromakalim, significantly increased MDA production in a concentration-dependent manner. MDA formation also increased linearly with incubation time in the presence of K(ATP) channe
