The use of robotic systems is assumed to provide a technically superior operative environment for minimally invasive surgery. However, our analysis of perioperative surgical outcomes indicated that robotic gastrectomy is not superior to laparoscopic gastrectomy. Clinical trials identification: NCT01309256.

Predictive Factors for Lymph Node Metastasis in Early Gastric Cancer With Submucosal Invasion

SJR Q1Annals of Surgery

Lymphatic involvement and tumor size are independent risk factors for a lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer with submucosal invasion. Minimal invasive treatment, such as endoscopic mucosal resection, may be possible in highly selective submucosal cancers with no lymphatic involvement, SM1 invasion, and tumor size <1 cm.

Microsatellite instability in sporadic gastric cancer: its prognostic role and guidance for 5‐FU based chemotherapy after R0 resection

SJR Q1International Journal of Cancer

This study investigated whether MSI status can be used as a prognostic biomarker and whether it is helpful for predicting which patients will benefit from 5-FU based adjuvant chemotherapy. Between 2005 and 2008, an MSI status examination was performed in 1,990 gastric cancer patients who had undergone curative gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma. MSI was analyzed by PCR amplification with fluorescent dye-labeled primers of mononucleotide markers (BAT25 and BAT26) and dinucleotide markers (D5S

The benefit of microsatellite instability is attenuated by chemotherapy in stage II and stage III gastric cancer: Results from a large cohort with subgroup analyses

We previously reported that the prognosis of microsatellite instability high (MSI-H) gastric cancer is similar to that of MSI-low/microsatellite stable (MSI-L/MSS) gastric cancer. The reason for this seemed to be related to the effects of chemotherapy. To verify this hypothesis, we expanded the study population and reanalyzed the prognosis of MSI-H gastric cancer. Data from 1,276 patients with Stage II and III gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy with curative intent between January 2005 and

Prognostic role of p‐mTOR expression in cancer tissues and metastatic lymph nodes in pT2b gastric cancer

SJR Q1International Journal of CancerOA

Despite the great interest in mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) as a potential anticancer therapy target, the prognostic role of mTOR in gastric cancer has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated mTOR expression in gastric cancer tissues and in metastatic lymph nodes and examined its association with clinical outcome. A total of 290 patients with pT2b gastric cancer were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to metastatic lymph node status: Group 1

Assessment of open versus laparoscopy‐assisted gastrectomy in lymph node‐positive early gastric cancer: A retrospective cohort analysis

SJR Q1Journal of Surgical OncologyOA

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) is still limited for early gastric cancer (EGC) with low possibility of lymph node (LN) metastasis, due to the concern for incomplete LN dissection and controversial long-term outcomes. We assessed oncological outcomes of laparoscopy-assisted versus open gastrectomy (OG) for patients with LN positive EGC. METHODS: Between 2003 and 2007, 204 patients underwent surgery for LN positive EGC. We evaluated adequacy of LN dissection and early and long-

Laparoscopic gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer: Are the long‐term results comparable with conventional open gastrectomy? A systematic review and meta‐analysis

SJR Q1Journal of Surgical OncologyOA

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer has been adopted to treat both early and locally advanced gastric cancer (AGC), but there are still concerns about its oncologic safety especially in AGC. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to compare the long-term outcomes of LG with those of open gastrectomy (OG) in patients with AGC. METHODS: The quantitative synthesis of outcomes of studies from three major databases, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central, was pe

Laparoscopic sentinel node navigation surgery versus laparoscopic gastrectomy with lymph node dissection for early gastric cancer: short-term outcomes of a multicentre randomized controlled trial (SENORITA)

BACKGROUND: Sentinel node navigation surgery reduces the extent of gastric and lymph node dissection, and may improve quality of life. The benefit and harm of laparoscopic sentinel node navigation surgery (LSNNS) for early gastric cancer is unknown. The SENORITA (SEntinel Node ORIented Tailored Approach) trial investigated the pathological and surgical outcomes of LSNNS compared with laparoscopic standard gastrectomy (LSG) with lymph node dissection. METHODS: The SENORITA trial was an investigat

A randomized controlled trial of Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy vs. gastroduodenostomy with respect to the improvement of type 2 diabetes mellitus after distal gastrectomy in gastric cancer patients
Yoon Young Choi, Sung Hoon Noh, Ji Yeong An
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of diabetes control induced by Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy(RY) vs Billroth-I reconstruction(BI) after distal gastrectomy in patients with early gastric cancer(EGC) and type 2 diabetes(T2DM). Forty EGC patients with T2DM, aged 20-80 years, who were expected to undergo curative distal gastrectomy were randomized 1:1 to RY(n = 20) or BI(n = 20). Diabetes medication status, biochemical and hormonal data including blood glucose, HbA1c, insulin, C-pep
