Effects of Walking Speed and Step Frequency on Estimation of Physical Activity Using Accelerometers
Jonghoon Park, Kazuko Ishikawa‐Takata, Shigeho Tanaka, Yuko Mekata, Izumi Tabata
SJR Q1Journal of PHYSIOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGYOA

This study evaluated the accuracy of assessing step counts and energy costs under walking conditions altered by step frequency changes at given speeds using uni- (LC) and tri-axial accelerometers (AM, ASP). Healthy young men and women (n=18) volunteered as subjects. Nine tests were designed to manipulate three step frequencies, low (-15% of normal), normal, and high (+15%), at each walking speed (55, 75, and 95 m/min). A facemask connected to a Douglas bag was attached to subjects, who wore acce

SJR Q2Journal of Aging and Physical Activity

The purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of uni- and triaxial accelerometers in monitoring step counts and gait intensity in older people who did or did not use an assistive device. Forty-nine healthy and frail older adults wore uniaxial (Lifecorder, Suzuken Co. Ltd.) and triaxial accelerometers (Activity Monitor, Matsushita Electronic Works, Ltd., and Active Style Pro, Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd.) during three trials at different gait speeds. All accelerometers gave relatively accur

Effects of exercise timing and intensity on physiological circadian rhythm and sleep quality: a systematic review
Nahyun Kim, Soonjo Ka, Jonghoon Park
SJR Q3Physical Activity and NutritionOA

PURPOSE: Humans show near-24-h physiological and behavioral rhythms, which encompass the daily cycle of sleep and wakefulness. Exercise stimulates circadian rhythms, including those of cortisol, melatonin, and core body temperature, and affects sleep quality. We systematically reviewed studies that examined the effects of exercise intensity and timing on physiological circadian rhythms and sleep quality. METHODS: In this systematic review, we used the online databases PubMed, Science Direct, Web

Estimating free-living human energy expenditure: Practical aspects of the doubly labeled water method and its applications
Jonghoon Park, Ishikawa-Takata Kazuko, Eun‐Kyung Kim, Jeong‐Hyun Kim, Jin‐Sook Yoon
SJR Q2Nutrition Research and PracticeOA

The accuracy and noninvasive nature of the doubly labeled water (DLW) method makes it ideal for the study of human energy metabolism in free-living conditions. However, the DLW method is not always practical in many developing and Asian countries because of the high costs of isotopes and equipment for isotope analysis as well as the expertise required for analysis. This review provides information about the theoretical background and practical aspects of the DLW method, including optimal dose, b

SJR Q2British Journal Of NutritionOA

The objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the indices of body size such as BMI, fat-free mass index (FFMI, FFM/height2), fat mass index (FMI, FM/height2), and body fat percentage (%BF), and physical activities assessed by the doubly-labelled water (DLW) method and an accelerometer in free-living Japanese adult women. We conducted a cross-sectional study in 100 female subjects ranging in age from 31 to 69 years. Subjects were classified in quartiles of BMI, FF

The effects of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization rehabilitation exercise on range of motion, isokinetic strength, and balance in chronic ankle instability taekwondo players
Jonghoon Park, Hyun-Seung Rhyu, Soung-Yob Rhi
SJR Q2Journal of Exercise RehabilitationOA

We aimed to investigate change the instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) rehabilitation exercise on range of motion (ROM), isokinetic ankle strength, and balance. We included 20 elite taekwondo players (chronic ankle instability) in Korea. They were divided into the IASTM group (n=10), control group (n=10). IASTM group were exercised with IASTM rehabilitation exercise four times per week for 8 weeks. The remaining control group did not receive exercise intervention between tests a

Jonghoon Park, Kazuko Ishikawa‐Takata, Shigeho Tanaka, Yuki Hikihara, Kazunori Ohkawara, Shaw Watanabe, Motohiko Miyachi, Akemi Morita, Naomi Aiba, Izumi Tabata
SJR Q2British Journal Of NutritionOA

The objective of the present study was to investigate whether a previously reported apparent negative relationship between fat mass and daily physical activity in Japanese adult women would also be observed in Japanese adult men. The subjects were grouped into quartiles of BMI and body fat percentage (%BF). The number of steps walked each day and the duration of light- to vigorous-intensity physical activity were assessed by an accelerometer over the same period of time as for the doubly labelle

Smart Village Projects in Korea: Rural Tourism, 6th Industrialization, and Smart Farming
Jonghoon Park, SeongWoo Lee

Abstract This chapter investigates diverse policy experiences of smart village strategy in Korea. The Korean approach has been highly influenced by the European Union (EU) experience emphasizing the importance of a bottom-up territorial development. The Korean government acknowledges agriculture is not the only driver of rural jobs and wealth creation. Rather it understands that diversified non-farm activities in rural areas are essential to revitalize the rural economy. The major policies relev

Case Reports in OrthopedicsOA

Hibernoma is a rare benign lipogenic tumor of brown fat that develops in a wide variety of locations. Although the features of hibernoma demonstrated by MRI resemble those of liposarcoma, recent FDG-PET/CT studies have documented higher radiotracer uptake than liposarcoma, suggesting that FDG/PET/CT is useful for differentiating hibernoma from liposarcoma. Here we report two cases of hibernoma that showed relatively lower SUVs than those reported previously, lying within the range for liposarcom

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) findings in patients with T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL). In total, 9 patients with histopathologically confirmed T-LBL were included in the study. Bone marrow (BM) involvement and leukemic transformation (LT) were evaluated through iliac crest marrow biopsy and peripheral blood blast count. FDG-PET scans were performed at the initial pre-treatment point. Two experienced n

This study evaluated the effects of exercise interventions on sleep quality and weight loss through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for publications up to December 2022. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in the analysis. The Risk of Bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 (ROB 2) tool, and disagreements were resolved by consensus.
