Characteristics of Korean Patients with Polymyalgia Rheumatica: a Single Locomotive Pain Clinic Cohort Study

Background: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common systemic inflammatory disease of the elderly; however, the clinical characteristics and therapeutic response of PMR in Korea have been rarely studied. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 54 Korean patients diagnosed with PMR between January 2009 and February 2017 in a locomotive pain clinic of one tertiary referral hospital. We analyzed epidemiologic and clinical characteristics, therapeutic responses, and prognostic factors for remiss

A Case of Delayed Onset Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis After Gadolinium Based Contrast Injection

Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) is a rare fibrosing disorder of the skin and joints that occurs in patients with advanced renal insufficiency. This condition is progressive and can be seriously disabling. Gadolinium based contrast agent (GBCA) has been identified as a potential cause of this condition. A 56-years-old man in hemodialysis developed stiffness and contracture of the whole limbs eight years after frequent GBCA exposure for cervical magnetic resonance imaging. For the first time i

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Magnetic resonance (MR) neurography has enabled the detection of subtle intraneural abnormalities, such as focal constrictions. This study aimed to describe the MR neurography findings in patients with spontaneous radial neuropathy. METHODS: Patients with spontaneous radial neuropathy symptoms for > 3 months and with electromyographically confirmed radial neuropathy at our hospital from 2018 to 2023 were initially included. Among these, data from patients who underwent MR neur

CYP2C9 Mutation Affecting the Individual Variability of Warfarin Dose Requirement

Warfarin is a frequently prescribed anticoagulant in rehabilitation patients. Adverse drug reactions of warfarin were reported as bleeding and cutaneous microvascular thrombosis. Major bleeding, such as intracranial hemorrhage and psoas hematoma, in patients receiving anticoagulation therapy is a rare condition, but sometimes very serious complication that can even be fatal. Patient-specific factors (eg, age, body size, race, concurrent diseases, and medications) explain some of the individual v

Objective To ascertain the etiology of non-traumatic plexopathy and clarify the clinical, electrophysiological characteristics according to its etiology. Method We performed a retrospective analysis of 63 non-traumatic plexopathy patients that had been diagnosed by nerve conduction studies (NCS) and needle electromyography (EMG). Clinical, electrophysiological, imaging findings were obtained from medical records. Results We identified 36 cases with brachial plexopathy (BP) and 27 cases with lumb

Pain management is a critical therapeutic goal in medicine. This review examines the mechanisms of various analgesics based on our understanding of pain pathways. Pain involves complex processes from nociception to perception, consisting of five key stages: transduction, conduction, transmission, modulation, and perception. Peripheral pain modulation occurs through inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins, bradykinin, and nerve growth factors. At the spinal level, synaptic transmission via glu
