<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Under the present effort to decrease of air pollution, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are appeared and developed. EVs are running by using electrical energy resource by supporting of battery packs. The effect of air-conditioning has proven to be a serious problem to the point of battery depleting. Thus in the present study, effects of air conditioning (i.e., cooling and heating) on driving range were studied for various driving m

Interactions between Ambient Air Particles and Greenness on Cause-specific Mortality in Seven Korean Metropolitan Cities, 2008–2016
Sera Kim, Honghyok Kim, Jong-Tae Lee
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

This study aims to investigate the association of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter smaller than 10 μm (PM10) and greenness with cause-specific mortality and their interactions in seven Korean metropolitan cities. We obtained the annual standardized cause-specific mortality rates, annual mean concentration of PM10, and annual Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for 73 districts for the period 2008–2016. We used negative binomial regression with city-specific random effect

SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

An increasing number of studies have suggested benefits of greenness exposure on mental health. We examined the association between urban greenness and depressive symptoms in adults in the general population living in the seven major cities in Korea (N = 65,128). Using data from the Korean Community Health Survey 2009, depressive symptoms were measured on the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Greenness was assessed using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) an

Benefits of Mitigated Ambient Air Quality Due to Transportation Control on Childhood Asthma Hospitalization during the 2002 Summer Asian Games in Busan, Korea
Jong-Tae Lee, Ji-Young Son, Yong-Sung Cho
SJR Q2Journal of the Air & Waste Management AssociationOA

The objective of this study is to see whether there were any health benefits of mitigated air pollution concentration due to reduced traffic flow during a citywide intervention for the 2002 Summer Asian Games. Relative risks of hospitalization for childhood asthma during the post-Asian Game period compared with the baseline period were estimated using a time-series analysis of the generalized additive Poisson model. Fourteen consecutive days of traffic volume control in Busan during the Games re

Archives of Environmental Health An International Journal

There is increased evidence that air pollution may be associated with cardiovascular disease. The authors' prior investigations on the association between air pollution exposure and stroke mortality led to the current study, which was conducted to assess the effects of ambient air pollution on ischemic cardiovascular diseases among the elderly population (i.e., males and females 64+ yr of age) in Seoul, Korea. The authors estimated the relative risks of hospitalization associated with an interqu

The authors evaluated whether the effects of air pollution on asthma in children differed by the regional socioeconomic status (SES) associated with the area in which children resided. They analyzed data on air pollution, asthma-related hospitalization, weather conditions, and SES collected from 25 subregions in Seoul from January 1 to December 31, 2002. The National Health Insurance Cooperation provided data for children aged younger than 15 years who were living in Seoul and hospitalized for a

Relationship between ambient ozone concentrations and daily hospital admissions for childhood asthma/atopic dermatitis in two cities of Korea during 2004–2005
Jong-Tae Lee, Yong-Sung Cho, Ji-Young Son
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Health Research

The objective of this study was to estimate the association between ambient ozone levels and hospitalization for asthma/atopic dermatitis among children younger than 15 years old living in Seoul and Ulsan, Korea, in the years 2004-2005. Estimated relative risks of hospital admissions associated with an interquartile range (IQR) increase in ozone concentration were calculated using a generalized additive Poisson model. For childhood asthma, the effect of an ozone increase on the relative risks in

Review of epidemiological studies on air pollution and health effects in children
Jong-Tae Lee
SJR Q1Clinical and Experimental PediatricsOA

There is a growing body of literature on the adverse health effects of ambient air pollution. Children are more adversely affected by air pollution due to their biological susceptibility and exposure patterns. This review summarized the accumulated epidemiologic evidence with emphasis on studies conducted in Korea and heterogeneity in the literature. Based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses, there is consistent evidence on the association between exposure to ambient air pollution and childr
