15MOTIVATION: The solvent accessibility of amino acid residues plays an important role in tertiary structure prediction, especially in the absence of significant sequence similarity of a query protein to those with known structures. The prediction of solvent accessibility is less accurate than secondary structure prediction in spite of improvements in recent researches. The k-nearest neighbor method, a simple but powerful classification algorithm, has never been applied to the prediction of solven
Mast cells are activated leading to the raised levels of substance P & VIP in IBS-D patients. However, the correlation between mast cells and levels of substance P & VIP differs according to gender.
Although strengthened concrete members with Fiber Reinforced Polymer Plastic (FRP) are well-known to improve both strength and stiffness of constructions, relatively little is known about their premature failure, and specially, the development of interface debonding when flexural macro cracks at the mid-point of a strengthened beam reach a critical state and an interface crack propagates to the end-block. Herein, an experimental study using GFRP-strengthened beams is performed, in which the effe
Aims Forkhead box O (FOXO) transcription factors, consisting of FOXO1, FOXO3a, FOXO4 and FOXO6, are involved in carcinogenesis and tumour progression. Recent studies have suggested that FOXOs act as tumour suppressors in a variety of human cancers. This study investigated the clinicopathological significance of FOXOs in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Methods FOXO protein expressions were assessed by immunohistochemistry in 125 TNBC tissues. Correlations between FOXO protein expression and
PURPOSE: Deregulation of microRNA-370 (miR-370) has been reported in various cancers, in which it can act as either an oncogene or a tumor suppressor gene. However, the clinicopathologic significance of miR-370 expression in breast cancer has not been studied. METHODS: The expression of miR-370 was determined with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in 60 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded primary breast cancer tissues. Additionally, the protein expression levels of previously known
Splenic hamartoma is a rare benign malformation, composed of an anomalous mixture of normal splenic elements, often found incidentally while working up other complaints or at autopsy. A splenic mass was incidentally found while evaluating the effects of a traffic accident in a 63-year-old woman. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a well-defined splenic mass with rim enhancement. The patient underwent splenectomy. The resected spleen contained a well-defined mass lesion measuring 3.5 cm × 3.0

The role of dual-specificity protein phosphatase 4 (DUSP4) appears to vary with the type of malignant tumors and is still controversial. The purpose of our study was to clarify the exact role of DUSP4 expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma. We constructed tissue microarrays and investigated DUSP4 expression by immunohistochemistry. DUSP4 was more frequently expressed in adenocarcinomas and lymph node/distant metastases compared to that in normal colorectal tissues and tubular adenomas (P < 0.00
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-associated death worldwide. Postoperative relapse and subsequent metastasis result in a high mortality rate, even in early stage lung cancer. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and are frequently dysregulated in various cancers. The aim of this study was to identify recurrence-associated miRNAs in early stage lung cancer. To screen for differentially expressed miRNAs related t
In the era of precision medicine, accurate and reproducible assignment of cell-of-origin (COO) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients has become important. The Lymph2Cx assay is accurately determining COO by analyzing RNA expression of 20 selected genes while the Hans algorithm based on immunohistochemistry is the most popular method for routine daily diagnosis. However, there are discrepancies between the 2 methods, which need to be evaluated for better correlation. We prospectively analyzed
PNLH is an uncommon but distinct entity with a benign nature, and understanding the radiological and clinicopathological characteristics of PNLH is important.
Microtubule-associated tumor suppressor 1 (MTUS1) is thought to be downregulated in arious human cancers, which suggests its role as a tumor suppressor. This study investigated the clinicopathological significance of MTUS1 expression in lung adenocarcinoma. Tissue microarray blocks consisting of 161 cases were constructed, and immunohistochemical staining was used to assess MTUS1 expression. Correlations of MTUS1 expression and clinicopathological parameters were analyzed. In addition, we used p
MTUS1 may act as tumor suppressor and might be a potential biomarker for predicting prognosis in GBC.
