Expression of 5‐lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase pathway enzymes in nasal polyps of patients with aspirin‐intolerant asthma
J Adamjee, Y‐J Suh, H‐S Park, JH Choi, JF Penrose, Lam Bk, K. Frank Austen, AM Cazaly, SJ Wilson, Anthony P. Sampson
SJR Q1The Journal of Pathology

In aspirin-intolerant subjects, adverse bronchial and nasal reactions to cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors are associated with over-production of cysteinyl-leukotrienes (cys-LTs) generated by the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) pathway. In the bronchi of patients with aspirin-intolerant asthma, we previously linked cys-LT over-production and aspirin hyper-reactivity with elevated immunoexpression in eosinophils of the terminal enzyme for cys-LT production, LTC4 synthase. We investigated whether this anomaly

TGF-β1 regulates cell fate during epithelial–mesenchymal transition by upregulating survivin
J Lee, JH Choi, Joo Ck
SJR Q1Cell Death and DiseaseOA

Members of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily are multifunctional cytokines that regulate several cellular processes, including cell cycle arrest, differentiation, morphogenesis, and apoptosis. TGF-β promotes extracellular matrix production and morphological change. Morphogenetic responses to TGF-β include cell migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which are critical during embryogenesis, development of fibrotic diseases, and the spreading of advanced carcin

MEIS2 is essential for neuroblastoma cell survival and proliferation by transcriptional control of M-phase progression
Yan Zha, Yingfeng Xia, J. Ding, JH Choi, Liqun Yang, Zheng Dong, Chunhong Yan, Shuang Huang, H-F Ding
SJR Q1Cell Death and DiseaseOA

MEIS2 has an important role in development and organogenesis, and is implicated in the pathogenesis of human cancer. The molecular basis of MEIS2 action in tumorigenesis is not clear. Here, we show that MEIS2 is highly expressed in human neuroblastoma cell lines and is required for neuroblastoma cell survival and proliferation. Depletion of MEIS2 in neuroblastoma cells leads to M-phase arrest and mitotic catastrophe, whereas ectopic expression of MEIS2 markedly enhances neuroblastoma cell prolif

SJR Q2Clinical Genetics

Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) is a key protein involved in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) metabolism. It is known to affect plasma HDL-C levels, and its genetic regulation may be involved in the development of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of the CETP Taq1B polymorphism in Koreans, and to investigate its relationship with plasma HDL-C levels and CAD. One-hundred and nineteen patients with significant CAD and 106 cont

E-K Kim, June Dong Park, S-Y Shim, Kim Hs, B. I. Kim, JH Choi, J.-M. Kim
SJR Q2Physiological ResearchOA

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) can be induced by various stresses and play an important role in cell cycle progression. HSP70 has been shown to act as an inhibitor of apoptosis. We studied HSP70 expression in bronchial epithelial cells of C57BL/6 mice and homozygous HPS70 knockout mice (hsp70.1-/-) exposed to chronic hypoxic stress. We also investigated changes in cellular proliferation and apoptosis in relation to HSP70. Lungs were removed from mice after a three-week period of exposure to 10 % O(2

CD56 expression in a case of primary cutaneous CD30+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma
S-E. Chang, I. H. Park, Jooryung Huh, JH Choi, K-J. Sung, KC Moon, J-K. Koh
SJR Q1British Journal of Dermatology

We describe clinicopathological features of an unusual case of CD30+/CD56+ T-cell lymphoma in a 58-year-old Korean man who presented with disseminated nodules, papules and hyperpigmented patches. Coexpression of CD30 and CD56 in T-cell lymphoma is very rare. Our patient did not respond to an intensive chemotherapy regimen, in contrast to the previously reported cases of primary cutaneous CD30+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Coexpression of CD56 might therefore identify a subset of CD30+ lymphom

S-E. Chang, Gyeong-Chae Bae, JH Choi, K-J. Sung, KC Moon, J-K. Koh, M-W. Lee, Jeffrey S. Silverman
SJR Q1British Journal of Dermatology

Sir, Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a distinctive CD34‐positive spindle cell neoplasm of probable mesenchymal origin that generally arises in the pleura.1–5 Rare cases of SFT arising in the skin have recently been reported, reinforcing the notion that SFT may arise in non‐serosal sites.4, 5 We report an additional case by describing a shelled‐out lesion of SFT with abundant myxoid change. A 42‐year‐old Korean woman presented in April 1998 with an asymptomatic, slowly enlarging lesion on the th
