SUBJECTS AND MATERIALS: The diagnostic materials including casts, panoramic radiographs, and lateral cephalograms of 1622 Korean subjects (611 males, 1011 females) were used to evaluate the pattern and prevalence of hypodontia as well as its association with the congenital absence of the third molar. The ch
CT findings of calcification, subcapsular hematoma, and lobular appearance in a large, centrally located, and heterogeneous renal mass in a child suggest a rhabdoid tumor of the kidney.
OBJECTIVE: To quantify the changes in the nose after bimaxillary surgery to correct skeletal Class III malocclusion and to test the hypothesis that there is no change in the nasal width following bimaxillary surgical correction of skeletal Class III when a nasal cinch is properly used. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-five adult Korean skeletal Class III patients who had received maxillary advancement/impaction and mandibular set-back surgery in conjunction with an alar base cinch suture were evalua
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship of the morphological characteristics of the symphyseal region of adult Class III malocclusion to the differences in overjet and overbite. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The basal and symphyseal widths along with the alveolar and symphyseal heights were evaluated using data from the lateral cephalograms of Korean adult male skeletal Class III, divided into crossbite (n = 28) and openbite (n = 41) groups. Korean male normal occlusion samples (n = 32) were used as co
Osteopontin (OPN) is a major non-collagenous bone matrix protein implicated in the regulation of cell function. Although OPN is rich in the cementum of the tooth, the significance of OPN in this tissue is not understood. Tooth root resorption is the most frequent complication of orthodontic tooth movement (TM). The objective of this study was to examine the pathophysiological role of OPN in cementum of the tooth root. For this purpose, the upper right first molar (M1) in OPN-deficient and wild-t
With the increase of the adult orthodontic population, there is a need for an accurate and evidence-based prediction of the posttreatment face in 3 dimensions (3D). The objectives of this study are 1) to develop a 3D postorthodontic face prediction method based on a deep learning network using the patient-specific factors and orthodontic treatment conditions and 2) to validate the accuracy and clinical usability of the proposed method. Paired sets ( n = 268) of pretreatment (T1) and posttreatmen
In children with primary congenital pulmonary lymphangiectasia, increased interstitial markings decrease over time and increased hyperinflation is associated with persistent patchy areas of ground-glass opacity.
Approximately 10% of children with rhabdomyosarcoma may have intraperitoneal neoplastic involvement either at the time of diagnosis or subsequently. On CT, intraperitoneal rhabdomyosarcomas are associated with ascites, enhancing nodules, masses, a pseudomyxoma peritonei-like appearance, and omental caking.
INTRODUCTION: The objectives were to visualize the incisive canal (IC) remodelling following maximum incisor retraction and to evaluate its impact on canal-invasion-associated apical root resorption. METHODS: Pre- and post-treatment CBCT images of 34 adult orthodontic patients (age 18-47 years) with a large amount of maxillary incisor retraction (>4 mm) using temporary anchorage devices (TADs) were retrospectively evaluated. Maxillary regional superimpositions and 3D models of the IC along with
BACKGROUND: The open gingival embrasure, the so-called black triangle, is one of the unsolved dilemmas in adult dentistry. Although various techniques have been introduced to improve black triangles, the lack of reproducible experimental models has prevented development of successful protocols to regenerate or to compensate loss of the interdental papilla. Therefore, the objective of this study is first to develop a reliable animal model of open gingival embrasure and then to validate a minimall
