15Tissue engineering is a rapidly growing field that utilizes cell/scaffolds constructs with chemical signaling molecules as potential therapeutic products for tissue regeneration. Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) provide excellent novel strategies for tissue engineering application. Recently, it has been recognized that understanding mechanical stimulation is an important key to the development of efficient and controllable methods as well as chemical signaling for differentiation of MSCs and tissue
The effects of electromagnetic fields and magnetic fields on cell proliferation is currently an active area of interest. In light of the widespread applications of electromagnetic stimulation for the clinical therapy of periodontal disease, it is likely that electromagnetic stimulation could have an important influence on key functional activities of osteoblasts in alveolar bone. The purpose of our research is to develop an optimized and appropriately characterized non-invasive treatment for alv
Stimuli to cells can be grossly classified into chemical and physical stimuli. Magnetic stimulation has been associated with increased collagen deposition, enhanced ion transport, amino acid uptake, fibroblast migration, ATP, and protein synthesis, including a significant increase in the rate of protein and DNA synthesis. Also, theoretical analysis of the effects of applied magnetic fields reveals that activation of transmembrane ion channels by applied fields is likely under certain conditions.
Objectives : This study analyzed Korea’s plastic flows and stocks over the past 40 years to provide a quantitative basis for the nation’s plastic management and circular economy. Methods : Dynamic material flow analysis was conducted to quantify plastic flows across lifecycle stages and to estimate the size of in-use stocks. Focusing on 10 resins and 7 products, the analysis was conducted between 1982 and 2020 and at a national level. Production and trade flows were mainly quantified based on sta
Purpose : The aim of the present study was to investigate the disagreement of cephalometric analysis depending on the reference determination of midsagittal plane on three-dimensional computed tomography. Materials and Methods : A total of 102 young women with class III dentofacial deformity were evaluated using three-dimensional computed tomography. The cranial and facial midsagittal planes were defined and the amounts of jaw deviation were calculated. The amounts of jaw deviation were compared
In this study two types of scaffolds which have taken the merits of polymer and bioceramics were prepared, and in vitro and in vivo effects of the novel degradable polymer-bioceramic scaffolds seeded with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) were investigated. Three elements were considered for the scaffolds; poly-DL-lactide (PDLLA), as degradable polymer, and tooth apatite (TA) and β-tricalciumphosphate (TCP) as degradable bioceramics. The first scaffold consists of PDLLA exclusively, the secon
Bioreactor systems that use a new aeration concept have recently been introduced. Bioreactors can assist in the development of new tissues in vitro by providing appropriate stimuli to the cell cultures. The design of bioreactors for tissue engineering is very complex and is often tailored to individual cell- engineered-tissue products. Critical elements in bioreactor systems based on cells and scaffolds include cell seeding, the nutrient and gas supply to cells, and mechanical stimuli. Flow perf
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) show great promise for replacing current stem cell therapies in the field of regenerative medicine. However, the original method for cellular reprogramming, involving four exogenous transcription factors, is characterized by low efficiency. Here, we focused on using epigenetic modifications to enhance the reprogramming efficiency. We hypothesized that there would be a new reprogramming factor involved in DNA demethylation, acting on the promoters of pluripo
This study was carried out to evaluate the renewable energy dissemination programs in Korea, using peer-review. Especially, we used the peer review method which was suggested to evaluate the renewable energy program in U.S. by EERE, DOE. Before we implemented the peer review, we modified this method suitable for evaluating the renewable energy dissemination programs in Korea by getting advice from expertise in renewable energy policy. From this procedure, we have verified six evaluation criteria
Objectives : This study assessed the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the urban water system from a life cycle perspective in the city of Paju. It serves as a case study to provide a quantitative basis for the net-zero water management. Methods : The scope of the study included the centralized local water supply and inter-basin water import system (water abstraction facilities, water treatment plants, pump stations, and water pipelines), wastewater system (wastewater pipelines, pump stations, an
